3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so recently someone pulled out in front of me at school and did a good amount of damage. if the estimate is too close to the value of the car, which isnt very high, they might total it out. so if that happens i will need a new car. i cant decide on whether i want to stick it out and look for another gen 3 camry v6 coupe 5spd, or go for a 2000 or so impreza wrx 5spd. i cant afford an sti, but i should be able to afford monthly on just a wrx. i love both cars, so i need help deciding. let me know your opinions
well, 1. there is no coupe V6 with a 5 speed. youd have to swap. 2. the WRX would be the better choice i think. however, buying a coupe camry would be MUCH cheaper to buy and insure.
well ill definately not buy an s2000 or anything honda for that matter. once u go camry, u never go honda. i actually think they made the 94 with a 5spd, or so says a couple of toyota employees that say they worked on them during the build process. but it was so rare that they might see like 5 out of 100. im lookin at imprezas, most of which are pretty good. and they arent really that expensive, no more than 10g. ive found only one se coupe v6. its auto but its only like 3g, but ill have to go check it out cuz there isnt any picture for it.
there is a 5 speed coupe but not SE and not V6, if you did find one it had been swapped. the swap isnt that hard to do so i wouldnt settle for a 4cyl 5 speed just to get the manual. 3 grand seems resonable, i wouldnt pay more than 4K for one.
I would recommend a Solara also. I like the Gen3 coupes, but they are hard to find and they are getting up there in terms of age (12-14). Finding one in good condition can be challenging
An oldest Solara is still less than 10 years old. It wasn't a big seller, but you should be able to find one in decent shape. What you want is the SE V6 with a 5-speed manual.
I have no doubt a WRX will be more entertaining to drive, but insurance would be killer. BTW, the first year WRX was avail in the U.S. was 2002.

idk about 2ks.. i was signing the paper work over the weekend to purchase one and i realized- NO CUP HOLDERS!?!? - so i said.. NO DEAL! Camry stays. LOL
Scion Tc's are very affordable and they have a lot of potential. WRX is another good choice but insurance is expensive. I dont know how much the gen 5 & 6 camrys go for these days, but you should check it out. Also don't forget about cars like the celica or the is300, they are both great cars that are mod friendly.
But overall a Tc is the best choice. A new Tc is under 18,000 and used ones with low miles are around 10-11,000. They are reliable cars that are becoming more mod friendly by the day. The wrx has lots of high end torque while the Tc has lots of low end power, making it more practical for the street.

i think if i could buy the car of my choice it would be a 98 supra twin turbo. modable to no end, fast as hell, and just pleasing to look at. but insurance isnt that big of a deal. im paying 80 a month for my camry right now. so i have quite a bit of money left over. i do want something with a bit of get up and go. i thought about a 94-99 celica. im not a big fan of the tc's, and i just cant stand hondas, especially civics. where i live all u see is the shitty ricer civics with ugly body kits, huge spoilers, and no power with a ricey exhaust. i smoke one every other day. not literally every other day but u get the point.
i was thinkin about a solara, theyre alright. ill just have to wait and see. only reason im really conserned abou this is the value of my car is only 2k, and my for my first wreck, not my fault by the way, they gave me a thousand for a knocked out parking light and the fender was bent a little. this one did a good amount of damage more so im worryin a little.
