has your intake hose done this?

i was changing the oil over the weekend and i noticed this:

after further inspection, it was torn about 3/4 of the way around. appears as though the rubber dried out and hardened.

so i did a little surgery and now have a slightly shorter intake.

i just thought it was a strange thing to break.

that's kinda bad for the engine because it's been using unfiltered air.

if you want a set of hose etc, I still have mine after I put my in SRI. if u want it i'll ship it to ya for a few pennies.

Looks like a perfect time for you to get a SRI

But that does suck, sorry to hear that happened.

Also look at the bellows sections and other coupling mount areas because they are subject to most wear (frettage)

Yes, typical!

Purchased an after market replacement at www.rockauto.com. Not cheap but cheaper prices then local stores or OEM Toyota.

i appreciate the offer, but i'll see how long this lasts, though i have to check where hajoca recommends.

eye8 - i didnt notice any difference in engine performance. motor always seems to run like a top no matter what happens.

Damn, same shit happened to me except I had another break at the bend too. $120 at the dealer just for the tube. I was thinking about getting an SRI, but decided against it if I wasn't gonna get any gains plus the noise that comes along with it.

Would it make it run better since it is leaner? Doesn't toyota tune it nice and conservative?

What a coincidence! I noticed I had the same break as well last week. I just replaced the hose last night with a new one ordered from ebay (cheap ole me...let's see how long it'll last). Of course it has been over 10years so plastic / rubber will tend to degrade over time.

I do plan to seafoam (or alternative) it as well. It was dirty in there.

happened in my old camry with about 3/4 of a rip like that.

similar thing is happening with the coupe. i think it's just a wear/tear item thing. best get it replaced and not shortened.
