Roughness around 2K RPM...

My 96 4cyl Camry has 155k miles, fully maintained car since new. Recently it
seems to have a roughness around 2k rpm. The roughness can be felt when
driving(2k rpm or abouts). Mostly felt if cruising, feathering the gas in that range. If you accelerating through that range it feels fine. Power is about as usual, no noticable loss of power. I use Sunoco-89 all the time. Recently had some servicing done...Timing Belt, Dist Cap&Rotor, PCV, Ignition Wires, Plugs, Water Pump, Cam Shaft Seal, Oil Pump Seal, Main Bearing Seal, Fuel Filter, Air Filter.

Any thoughts on why this rougnhness? Repair center that did the above work is at a loss as to why the roughness.

Appreciate comments...

I know that our engines are different (mine is the v6 1mz-fe), but I have had the same problem for years. After having a chat with the service writer at my toyota dealership, I found that it is due to my EGR. He said they had a Camry with this prob, spent 3 days troubleshooting, and found that replacing the EGR valve fixed it. When I get the chance I am going to take mine off and try cleaning it...$200 for a new one if cleaning it doesn't work. Anyhow, I know that your EGR system is completely different from mine, but I gotta say that you are describing the exact problem I have. It almost seems like the vehicle is hesitating/bucking when held at just the right RPMs and speed. As soon as you give it gas, the problem goes away. So, check it out. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing this. I'll certainly mention that tomorrow to the shop
that did all the recent work I mentioned in original post. Only thing that makes me suspicious is the " 2K rpm roughness" is really since this work was done. Odd! Well, I suppose it's possible, bad EGR all of a sudden.

Thanks again for taking the time to share this, most apprecited.

...Bob
