4th Generation Clutch Trouble

Hi, I drive a 98 Camry CE 2.2L 5 speed and a few days ago when I went to start my car something odd happened. before trying to start it I pushed down on the break pedal and then the clutch pedal. when i pushed down on the clutch pedal it sank to the floor and would not come back up after letting my foot off of it. So I assumed my clutch linkage was broken or a line had poped and was leaking. I checked it out and could not find the problem so I pulled the clutch pedal back up using my hands.after that it seemed to be working again and I could drive the car but the clutch does not feel right. Before it had about the same resistance all the way through its travel but now there is hardly any resistance until about the last quarter of travel and it is very stiff. Also, the clutch now engages almost as soon as i start to release it whereas before it would engage about halfway through its travel.

I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if they have found a solution. I am getting used to driving with the clutch like this but i cant help but fear there is a problem somewhere with it. Can anybody provide some insight into my situation? Thanks!
