3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just got back from Michigan for a 3 day trip
on the way, there were long stretches of highway where there are no cops and people were doing 90 mph ...140-150 km/h.
well, I was driving my camry....with all the mods and stuff.
Before I modded my I4 LE...my camry's comfort zone speed was at 130...LOL
as soon as I hit 130, the front wheels start to rattle and steering wheel shakes as well. I start to feel like the car was gonna break down any time if I go any faster.
After the modding....COs....intake....strut bar...etc etc...I hit 160 or 100mph effortlessly....it was a nice feel. but after 160 approaching 170, it started shaking a tiny bit...not that terribly bad...and i stopped at 170 lol...didnt want to tail gate
however...my 07 accord hits 160 even easier o_O...LOL but that's a 30k car compared to my camry which is worth like 3k haha
I just wanna know how your camry performs at this tender age of being 12-16 years old
well mines newer but its weird, its a little shaky at around 60 but from about 70 till id say 120mph the thing feel so composed. no shaking rattling or strange engine noises. it almost remids me of driving a german car, which are built for highspeed and are often clunky and awkward at lower speeds.

i believe though, camry was designed for a cruising speed between 100 and 120.
the stock suspension dies after 10 years...doing anything more than 120 was out of the comfort zone
and ALSO i discovered an AMAZING factor.
i got a SRI....from toronto to detroite...i drove with the cheapest canadian gas with ethynol. the trip took like more than half a tank of gas....distance is about 350 km
from detroite to toronto, i filled up half a tank of premium gas WITHOUT ethynol.....the trip took barely 1/3 of the tank.
ahh u and ur supercharged beauty
what suspension are you running again? H&K?
how the heck did u get up to 240 even? track?
oh btw, know anyone who can smoke my headlights and retro fit the lowbeams with projectors?
yah, but more so, it was the supercahrged 5-speed that made the difference the auto actually still has a hard time going up to that kind of speed....at least on my gen3...I had problems after about 210...so not any faster than stock really, but it just gets there faster...
and let's just say the road was empty and my suspension is actually just eibachs in the rear, dropzones in the front, and kybs + whiteline rsb....so, actually not to harsh of a ride at all...but I think that at those speeds, that's a good thing, otherwise the car can catch air..and of course, low profile tires make a huge difference
as for retrofits...I can....but I'm just not too sure if it's worth my time to do them is all...cuz it's really labor intensive...but we can talk in the summer and see...

My scepter was stable as hell all the way up to 135MPH (which is where i ran out of pavement and had to slow down). Now i wouldn't recommend that in a stock camry, but suspension and tires really make a huge difference on that car.
My new car is comfortable in the twisties at 90+ mph, just ask Joe .
