in one of my shop class camry, the 03 4 banger. they removed the resonator and has a litte grow at high rpm. if i was to remove it from my 1mz, would it be raspy? i like the low rumble it has now. but not loud enough. only hear when its at idle at im at the back of the car..

I've had the resonator replaced with straight-piping when I had my Magnaflow muffler and my Apexi muffler. It sounded raspy when the car revved up. I decided to put an aftermarket resonator back on and it smoothed the sound out quite a bit. It also became significantly quieter, but that's because I chose a long resonator. I'd suggest leaving your current one on if you want a smooth sound. It does make it slightly louder but it begins to sound raspy (at least on the 5SFE).
right it stock. i jsut wanted to see how it sounds like just stright pipe from cat back to the stock muffler..
i got my SRI in the front to give me sound, but i want some sound from teh exhuast to compete the circut. lol

Really? I was told that cherry bombs are resonators too, so they would cut down on sound. I originally had a cat-back setup with a test pipe to an Apexi muffler. I decided I wanted it smoother and deeper (but not too quiet) so I threw on some aftermarket resonator. It really toned the sound down and now it just sounds like an axle-back setup. The guy at the muffler shop told me that glasspacks and cherry bombs are just the same thing as a resonator and would also cut down on the sound. Anyways, I was pulled over and ticketed ($391) the day I got that resonator installed so now I just have a Magnaflow XL oval muffler in place of the Apexi. All I can say is that now it's way too quiet, almost like stock.

Just punch a hole in your muffler. That will sure make it louder.
the car would actually sound pretty good if you removed the res and left you stock muffler in place. its nothing more then a muffler anyways.
yeah it sounded good on a 4 banging gen 5.. it not loud but get a little aggressive at the high end. a classmate was revving the gen 5 camry and i was in a avalon with the 1mz and that sounded a lot beefer then the avalon

hmm.. i only said this because i can hear a very low low growl coming from the exhaust.. and i just wanted to amplify the sound. i'll try to get a video but not sure if i'll be able to capture it..
it sounds better in person.. but i'll try to get a better video..
