4th Generation I have questions about turbo...

I know there are threads about turbos. However, I'm new to cars and I have no idea what parts I'm looking for. And a lot of the stuff on how to put a turbo in makes no sense to me. I have a '98 V6 Camry and everything is flat out stock.

reaserch reaserch reaserch. if you dont know alot about it theres only so much we can say. its alot of work to build a turbo setup, and alot of money.

this may help get you started.
1. talk to tonythetiger, he has very sucessfully turboed his V6 and has a welth of knoledge.
2. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...ch_center.html
3. search around here and on solaraguy.com at teh threads about turbos, theres plenty of info between both sites to get ya started.

theres not much other info to give, your asking a very broad question and u need some background on the subject before we can really anwser your question. if it were me id try to look for the Supercharger, alot less work and reliable enough for daily use. that also has a welth of knoledge behind it on this site and solaraguy.com.

Agreed. Spoonfeeding you is not going to work well. It's a pretty dedicated commitment

There is a ton of factors here, and there is just one thing after another when turbo'ing a v6 camry. There is a thread that is old about the first turbo that tony put in his camry. Something called age old question on turbo'ing v6 or something like that. Has most of the parts he use. Will tell you this, it will CHANGE YOUR MIND. besides that, research.

Good luck on your choice.

I shall follow the advice of all of you. And I'll consider the supercharger. I'd just prefer turbo. I'm basically looking to blow my friend's Escort out the water. That and I'm tired of a stock Camry...

He has a turbo and Nitrous. That's all I know... I'll find out more later.

And I found a Supercharger for sale.

Still, I'm gonna research more on the turbo...

thats a REAL bad reason to do this. ask anyone who has turboed or even SCed thier camry and its usually not to blow away friends faster car...or anyones faster car. that reason is not worth the trouble. the camry is not a good platform for modding. if you just want to get a faster car sell yours and get a faster car or at least one that has more aftermarket fallowing. most of us here mod our camrys cuz we love them and just want to make them different or surprise people. but thats my opinion on the matter.

Um, you better save up like $15k if you think you'll beat him in a Camry. My friends Wagon that was cheap to build. Probably the same motor.
