HELP: Timing Belt slipped/broke

I was wondering if anyone on this board has this problem before. My timing belt on my 1994 4cyl camry slippebroke. I'm trying to install a new one but I don't have anyway of marking it. How will I know if my head is at the top dead center position? Also how can tell you tell if your engine is at the 180 or 360 degrees? Any marks that I can be looking at? All help will be so appreciated. ML

in the thread posted below are some photos on timing marks, especially for cam gear alignment. for the crank, you can always pull the #1 spark plug and use something like a dowel rod to see where the piston is. to set up timing, #1 should be at top dead center.

The marks will work if your belt didn't break, mine did. I knwo about the dowel rod and stuff but is there another trick that I can do to cehck if my engine is turned at 360 degrees?

use the link to check the timing marks for the cam gear itself. once that is lined up, the crank just has to be turned to the zero degree mark. its only the cam gear that can be off 360 degrees, not the crank since the crank turns twice for every single turn the cam makes.

hey, dont be too worried about screwing up the timing - its a non-interference motor!
