Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Having such a headache trying to find a way to fit 6.5's into my australian camry (stock 4inch), i decided to do abit of searching and came across "Q-Logic" a company that do speaker boxes.
http://www.qlogicenclosures.com/pc-8...4c90-gray.aspx
They do some 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 kick panels for the camrys, so I've emailed them to find out if I can get any pictures.
If the pictures they send are similar to the australian ones, I'll be ordering some up.
Has anyone else seen these installed, or heard anything about them?
So wait are you doing the door speakers on top of the kick panel? that would acually be pretty interesting to see done and deff got my attention! i would love to see what they look like if u get them and installed! take lots of pics so i can see cause im interested in getting some myself!
Boston Acoustics makes some SUPERB speakers that are a drop-in replacement, with a separate tweeter, which can be easily hidden behind the stock grille. But do you have a Boston Acoustics dealer near you?

Are you talking about 4's or 6.5's?
I'm not so worried about the tweeter, that will be mounted to the window corner panel.

I don't know, I mean if I can get away with just the doors I'll do that, but if it can't be done up to my standard, I'll do the kick panels. Maybe I could do both in the future, that's not such a crazy idea.
I will be doing the 6x9's after I get the doors sorted, the adapters just turned up.
I'm also looking at a lid-mounted sub enclosure to maximize boot space, or corner boxes. My father works at a fiberglassing and prototyping company, so it should all be pretty straight forward.
Now I just need to find a camera.
These are the images that Q-Logic sent me that are supposed to be the 94 camry, Can I get someone's oppinion if they are?
I think the australian ones might be different, because I don't have the bonnet lever there.
Weither it's just the difference between left and right hand drive, I don't know.
Does anyone have pictures both the american ones (left and right) so I can see if mine is similar?

I've heard and read that they improve the sound staging in your car as they move the sound more out in front of you and angled more up and toward you as opposed to being low in the door and firing into your leg. My main problem with them would be that, as your one picture shows, it would cover the dead pedal on the drivers side. I use that dead pedal ALL THE TIME and would not be willing to give it up.
I've asked this before of other Aussie posters, but have never gotten a response. Do you have any pics of the speaker opening/mounts in your door with the door panel off? I'd like to see what it looks like compared to the American Camry. I just keep wondering if the speaker housing is a plastic housing like the American version only with a smaller opening, i.e. wondering if you could replace with an American housing, etc. Also wondering if the grill in the Aussie Camry door panel is specially sized for the 4" speakers or if its the same as the American grill.

I can get some crappy cellphone pictures tomorrow. From the door panels I've seen on ebay, they are completly different. To my understanding, the actual structure of the door is the same, but the internal panels and speaker brackets are different. I've seen the 6.5 brackets on ebay, looks the same as my 4 with a bigger opening. The grill is totally different, and fits into the 4 stocks.
(at one point I considered getting a whole new door panel and speaker brackets sent over )
I don't have the problem of the deadpedal, being on the right hand side of the car. But I do have a significant amount of wires behind the right-hand kick panel, are the american ones like this? seems to be the rear lights \ speakers \ etc running down the right side?
It's just concerning because if the american kickpanel speaker boxes are designed to fit around this, then i'll have even less space to use the loud pedal.

Rear decks are the standard 6x9's, i've got adapter plates for those.
I was doing some test fitting, and I think I can make up a fiberglass cover box for the 6.5's to basically fit externally, in the grill of the standard door panel.
As this is my first car, I'm never going to sell it, it will be run into the ground. So being able to return to stock isn't that much of an issue, I just didn't want to cut a massive hole and mount them with some MDF spacers and superglue :P
Here's the australian 96 Camry door, naked:
here's the 4inch stock in question:

I found a busted old 6.5 that I could use to fiddle with. Here's how looked if I put it behind the door panel:
I'm not holding that out, that's the window down. ! So there goes the "behind the panel" mounting idea.
So, Here's how I'll position it. It works out rather well for sound staging aswell, so I think I'll make a fiberglass molding of it both sides the same, and leave it at that.
I'll probably throw some MTX Audio TX6001's in it.
There's a gen3 beeing parted out in the FS section. See if you can get the factory speaker mounts from it. Send a pic of what you need, maybe you can get them cheap with the speakers still installed.
I don't know as yet. I held the 6.5 in, with the OEM kickpanel removed, and it really didn't leave any space for my boots to use the pedel. I'm sure for a left-hand drive they would be ok, but I doubt they'll work in with my righty.
Then again, stranger things have happened. I'll probably just use this thread as a sort of work log.
