Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
That's right.. picked it up with 100k miles for $1400. It's in beautiful condition, nothing wrong with the engine .. or ANYTHING. Runs like a fucking beast.
Warning: I do not know that much about cars, I am a Network Security major and I do not know your lingo :P
Anywho, first order of business is wheels + tires. I live in Chicago and I tried to pick these up: http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/pts/658425199.html. Went there today and the 5 lugs didn't match mine. Wasn't worth it for me to put them on, discount tire said the tires would hang out 1.5in after putting something on the backplate to keep them in place or something. So I said fuck it.. on goes the search.
Anyone have any suggestions for decently priced rims/tires for my 99 Camry LE? I don't even know where to look or what will fit.
As for the next pimp... I wanted to get my windows tinted, so I did that. 35% all around. CHECK
The next pimp is my stereo system. It's pretty fucking bad ass (well, it looks bad ass sitting in my garage).
I have:
2x Alpine Type-R SWR-1242D 12" Car Subwoofer
1x Rockford Fosgate - 1000W Class BD Mono Amplifier
Dual DVD8183 In-Dash DVD Player
So I'm planning on hooking that up soon.. but I really want wheels and tires to compliment my awesome looking car :P Anyone have any ideas? I thought bigbird's is fucking sweet: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2690...83819728tqkpVs. Don't call me an idiot, but I want those red looking brake pad things.. where can I get some good wheels/tires and those sporty ass looking brakes :P
wow great price ya got it for, and thanks, i liked it too. the bolt size your looking for is 5x114.5 or 5x4.5" and ull want an offset somewhere around 32-45mm. thoes wheels were drag DR8s and they were pretty cheap, in every sense.
as far as the calipers, jsut go to advanced or any auto parts store and pick up the caliper painting kits they have, its pretty easy to do.
But anyway, I think I got a real good deal. I've had the car for about 2 months and since the summer is coming, I want to start doing some shit to it. Maybe actually get in to cars :P Since I didn't put to much in to it, I know I can't fuck it up that much :-D
Anyone know like .. if I wanted to replace the interior if I could do it myself.. I don't know, maybe some nicer seats or something. Theres a few cigarette burns in the car from the previous owner, kinda makes it look like shit. Interior needs a little bit of work, and from the pics, theres a few dents on the right above the wheel.. (driver side).
So.. what do you guys think I can do with like $3500 in to this car? .. cause that's what I got.. :P (but I've already used $1k for the radio)
Ok guys... this is what I got it narrowed down to, but I have no idea where to start looking or buying this stuff.
1) New rotors
2) New calipers
3) New breaks ..
4) New wheels + tires
5) Xeon lights and clear headlight covers ?
Alright so .. I realized that my rotors are real rusted, and if I painted the calipers, it would still look like shit because of the rotors. So I'm looking for a decent pair of 17" wheels+tires.. I really don't know where to start out. I'm probably going to do a custom mesh for the front first, though.
So.. help me get to work :P Where can I get the headlight covers and xeons? I tried searching but .. I just don't know what da fuck to buy :P Hey maybe if I get this shit done I can come to y'alls meat in Maryland or whatever.. all the way from Chi Town :P
So, any help? Any suggestions? I wanna start working .. tomorrow.. and hopefully show you guys some results this weekend.
1) New rotors 2) New calipers 3) New breaks .. 4) New wheels + tires 5) Xeon lights and clear headlight covers
1) rotors usually look rusted after a wash and unless they're warped.. i'd skip this.
2) unless the calipers on ur car is siezed onto the rotor- this would also be a waste of money.
3) new brake pads sounds good if you're old ones are worn out- but again.. it'd be a waste of money if they're still good.
4) wheels and tires would be a good starting point..
5) Xenon lights are usually reffered to as HIDs and for our car.. you're gonna be looking for the H4 size. This is also a plus because the headlights are piss poor.
There's some clear headlight COVERS out there but for what? - if you meant the actual clear glass on the headlight itself.. there's none for our car. LOL
well items 1 and 2 would fall under item 3. as far as new brakes goes you have either a Big Brake Kit($1200+), try to find an ericsol caliper relocation kit which allows you to run supra TT rotors on the stock V6 calipers(i have on my car), or just upgrade some parts. for looks you can get drilled and/or slottet rotors which wouldnt do squat but look good and stainless steel brake lines which would improve braking.
as for painting: i actually painted the "naked" surface of the rotors as well, makes it look much better.
rims: try ebay, the for sale section here and i actually do like the service and prices of discounttire.com, thats where i got my wheels.
there are no headlight covers, but, there is a member, greg cheban who hand made clear lenses for the gen4, pm him, he may still have a set. other then that ud have to do a gen4.5 conversion and get the halo gen4.5 lights.
by xenons im assuming you mean HIDs. there are kits everywhere, i actually like the mod express one i have on my car. they are also avalible in the for sale section.
if it were me id start with wheels and tires, then work on the suspension then get an intake and maby a muffler, then go from there.
I just want the calipers to look good.. but would they look good if the rotors were kinda rusted? I dunno man .. I guess if they were cleaned up. They don't look to bad man :P
So yea.. I was thinkin those tires, or the white ones EE was selling .. but kinda expensive for me right now since I want to do a whole bunch of shit like HIDs and clear front covers.. is that his forum username? I'm gonna try and PM this dude, would be awesome if I can get some clears and mesh the front.. make the front look like an IS300
