3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I hydroplaned on the wet pavement today, wheels locked up and I could not stop. I slid into an SUV, their vehicle was not damaged. Mine....another story. LOL. Sorry I did not insert pictures but click the link and you will see everything.
Suggestions please on what I should do? I need a set of lights, hood, front bumper and grille center piece. I have full coverage and my deductible is $250, I am not sure what they will determine from that. Its a 94 and has 219k miles.
If there is no frame damage, which I doubt there is, they'll fix it. It wont be totaled. There really isnt that much damage there. We'd be able to tell more if you took some pics under the hood of the radiator support area to see if there is damage there.

Thanks for the swift reply. I will try to take those pictures tomorrow. It was already dark when I got home. I know one headlight is not coming on. Not sure what happened there. The high beam does come on though. I drove it about another 100 miles before I parked it. I will figure things out Monday I guess.

It's an easy repair. The new center grille is available from Toyota and it's resonable, about 60 bucks if I remember right. (I just bought one, so actually I have a good spare, except I'm going to repaint the old
one as an experiment.)
The front bumper takes a little work to remove. There's more holding it on than you might think. I know,
I looked into the possibility of removing my bumpers to refinish them separately as part of my restoration
of my '92.
If just the bumper skin got damaged, you're in good shape. The bumper core complicates things if
it's damaged. Those aren't really cheap, not new, anyway, but the junkyards are likely to have usable
skins and bumpers just sitting there, still on the car. The skin can be refurbished, filling in the
inevitable dents and scratches with body putty, then priming and painting it to match the car.
The headlight could simply be burned out or maybe a wiring harness got damaged in the crash. A few
splices, maybe a new lamp, and you're back.
The hood shouldn't cost much from a junkyard. It'd be expensive from Toyota. Trying to fix that
hood damage is possible but it's a job for a skilled bodyman.
I found the parts all online. Ebay at least. Many are unprimed. The total is higher than my deductible so I will just pay it which is $250. I did get the lights working. I replaced the bulbs and they work fine. I did have problems getting the side marker back in after trying to make some room to get my hand inside to change the headlight itself.
At least I can drive at night until I get a rental or whatever. I will keep you updated.
I wonder if the collision shop will let me get clear or black lights? If not I would just buy them on ebay and let them put them in. I am not certain how strict they are on the rules of this stuff. I found a grille with a silver emblem and not the tarnished gold that I have currently. I had changed my emblems on the back to all silver when I first got the vehicle.
Thanks for your insight on this. This is a great place to gather information and feedback from others.

I got the estimate today from the shop the insurance company suggested.
The total is $1420
My deductible is $250
Insurance company will pay $1170
They have the materials at $304
Labor is $1044
It is broken down by paint labor, body labor, etc.
I think this is pretty high, I asked around and found someone that will do the work for $300.
That was including the replacing the good, bumper and reinforcement bracket, lights, etc, and painting it all.
Parts were as listed:
Hood $105
Bumper $50
Light $63 (cheaper on ebay)
___________
$218 parts
I do not want the insurance company to total the car out because to spend $1170 for the insurance company on a vehicle with a private party value of $2800 seems odd, but what do I know.
Ouch man but yours wasn't as bad as mine was... I'm pretty sure you have some family with experience in auto repair that can come in handy. If you lived in Tuscaloosa, AL I know where you can get all of that repaired right at $300 with a new paint job!

Hey! It ain't much to beat the block down, but it'll work for now...
I wouldn't even go to the insurance company with that. The damage is very minor, I would keep driving it until I could find someone that can repair it for cheap.
I would also consider getting the parts, painting, and replacing them myself. How hard can it be?
Sorry everyone, I am not good with the picture insert deal. Click the link above. The car came out pretty good. I will be adding clear lights and corners this weekend.
Thanks. A place locally, Carstar. Insurance company suggested them. They had the vehicle a little longer than anticipated but overall I was satisfied.
After I add the clear DEPOS, I should be all set.....LOL..except that I really like the projector lights people have on here. I have one of those S2000 antennas also. I still have to order all that other stuff for it though.
but yeah...small things like that suck, because they cost a lot and the price for paint is the same regardless of extent of damage since it just goes by body panel
