It is all in what you want. 17s are a good way to good if you like the wheel your getting. I wasnt fortunate enough to get that. 17s and 18s are what most people get. Got some pictures of 2 camrys with 17s and different tires and a picture of my car with 18s and lower profile tires on it.
Sry Joe, yours where the best examples of this.

So this is a 17 with tire that is 225/50. Wider tire and taller one too, but fits with his H&R springs, prolly the same ones your looking at.

Here are an other set of 17s, but with a 215/45. So this is the same side wall size you are looking at for 17s.

Heres my car with the 18s. The tire size is 225/45 R18. It works for me, gives me a rough ride like i want, still needs a suspension modification, but that is to come this summer. Only thing you really need to worry about with a 18 is they will get damaged very easily if you not carefully. Sure one pot hole can bend any rim, but 18s......omg. I take all bumps in the road as a hazard to my investment, sure its a pain to traffic behind me, but its worth it for the look I bought.
hope this helps.
OH, and I like number 2.
