3rd Generation My fantasy project: V8 Gen 3 Camry!

OK, it's just a fantasy that will never happen, short of a lottery win, but if I did check my
lottery ticket (and this morning, as of the time I write this, I haven't, so there's hope! )
then I'd obtain another gen 3 Camry and try to find some car-modding maniacs who I'd
hire to do this:

Evaluate the possibility of modifying the heck out of the Camry chassis and slamming
a new Toyota 3UR-FE 5.7L V8 iForce engine and tranny, and suitable drivetrain and rearend,
into the car. Modify, mix, and match anything and everything it takes to make everything
run like the car came from the factory as a rear wheel drive V8 car.

Preserve the stock interior.

Preserve the stock external appearance.

Result: A daily drive that's a full-on sleeper. 381 HP, 401 ft-lbs of torque, in dead stock
factory trim and tuning. Eats 5-liter Mustangs. Gives Corvettes a run for their money.
Kicks the snot out of most ricers.

Not so hot on gas mileage.

This is going to

for sooooo many reasons.

IMO you are essentially going to end up with

Lots of people come on here posting wanting to know if they lift Camrys and go off roading or swap in Northstar Cadillac what ever kind of motor they think is cool..Yay for having big aspirations and all..But honestly though?? Reality check please. A much nicer car that will be much faster could be had for much less money though still being "custom".

Hmmm, that is an interesting fantasy. Can't blame you for having imagination. I guess the problem is that Toyota's V8's are engineered to fit a rwd chassis while our Camrys are fwd.

I suppose it's possible but only at great cost. Me, I would probably just go ahead and buy a Lexux LS460, or even an LS400 and use the money for something else.

It's nothing but fantasy. It's not intended to be anything else.

But it WOULD be fun.

The engineering challenges of retrofitting RWD into an FWD vehicle are considerable.

It might be easier to find an RWD frame with the right wheelbase and find a way to bolt a Camry body onto it.

Jay Leno did it with and 64 or 65 Olds Toronado. I have seen him & the car on several shows.
Of course He has the big money.

If you're gonna buy a whole nuther Gen 3, why not try it instead with an MX83 Cressida? Factory RWD, IRS, and looks even more sleeperish than a Gen 3, oh, and it's been done before (albeit with a 1UZ)!

fantasy is right! just to save the trouble of wasting 4-8 pages of the progression of "well if it could be done...". allow me to sum it up. can it be done: yes, with unlimited funds, time, and entire enginering staff at your disposal. should it be done...NO! i wouldnt think to highly of someone who spent the time, money and man hours to fab, test and perfect this on a camry. however, its good to have a good imagination, but lets keep it at that.

Fair enough.

I've just got this bias against front wheel drive systems even though I own one, and not my first one.

My last RWD car was a '78 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 425 CID, Turbo 400 tranny, rear wheel drive, of course. It was a comfortable land yacht and that motor had plenty of torque. Sometimes I miss it, but I'm
glad I'm not filling THAT gas tank these days at 10 MPG in the city!

I would rather see a 2JZGTE in it. That is one of my fantasies.
Or a 1mzfe in a corolla.

if he can you can with this car you can with yours, but like is said either unlimited imagination and time on your part or deep pockets, if you look this thing up its all over the net, and scary to watch him try and drive... i read a whole like 30 page long forum thread on this thing and i think if you find it and read it youll understand better what you wanna do and why everyone says dont bother...
