4th Generation Something is dreadfully wrong (2000 Camry)

Over the past year my 2000 camry has been having what seemed like minor electrical problems due to a bad alternator, or so i thought. but, after going to the local auto zone and getting a test run on the battery and alternator, i found that both were in tip top shape.

so here is the scoop

1.Whenever I am driving and hit the brake my radio shuts off for a few seconds and then comes back to normal.

2. Whenever I am driving with cruise controll and i use the brake the cruise controll shuts off.

3.Whenever I turn on my high beams at night not only does cruise controll shut down, but the little orange ABS light comes on and my radio flashes non stop. I then have to put my car in neutral untill the ABS light goes off and then put the car back into drive before i can use the radio or cruise controll again.

4. When i roll my windows up at night, the headlights dim significantly

any help would be much appriciated!

thanks.

Maybe you have a bad connection on the battery or the alternator. check your grounds see if they're good. Make sure all your connections are clean too

I would check your connections and look under the dash and make sure there isn't anything obvious i.e. somebody wired something and didn't do it right.

Your cruise control is supposed to turn off when you hit the brakes though.

I have a similar problem but just a few times!
When I turned on my headlights the radio would shut off and only once the ABS light came on. I did look at the battery terminals and they do need a good cleaning but I have yet to take care of this problem. So far it hasnt reoccured but I will clean the battery terminals. Let me know what you find out!

Is it a stock or aftermarket radio? Regardless, make sure someone didn't try to 'hard wire' it to the main harness, perhaps they tapped into something they shouldn't have...

+1 on J_Phu. If they're obviously loose and/or dirty clean and tighten and see if that solves it. If not, take it in to an Auto Zone and ask them to check your battery and alternator to make sure that they are operating efficiently. If none of the above, write back.
