camry 92 check engine light on

Hi,

My car was in the garage all winter. I just took it out. I changed the oil before starting the engine and I installed an oil pressure gauge and a vacuum gauge. Now the problem I have is that the check engine light is on. I reseted it by unplugging the battery but it turns on again after about 20 km.

To install the electrical oil pressure gauge, I removed the original sensor and put the new one. I thought the original sensor was only plugged to the oil light on the dash. Is that true or is it sending informations to some internal computer?

Also, to install the mechanical vacuum gauge, I cut the vacuum line just before the fuel pressure regulator to put the T fitting and the tubbing there.

Both gauges are working correctly and, to my knowledge, they are displaying correct values.

So why do you think my check engine light turns on?

I did the installation with a buddy who knows a lot more about cars then I do. Sorry if the description of how we installed everything is not 100% accurate.

Thanks!

edit: forgot to mention, I have the V6 engine.

Just to clear something up first. When you say you installed the oil pressure guage and you replaced the old one, do you mean you replaced the oil pressure sending unit down by the oil filter and hooked your new gauge up to that?

I replaced the original oil pressure sending unit near the oil filter by the one that came with the gauge (autometer). The cable that used to be connected to the old oil pressure sender is now disconnected.

So anyone knows if the oem fuel pressure sensor is connected to a computer or only to the dashboard oil light? (92 v6)

Thanks.

There is so many things that can set that light off. It could be what you did, or it could be something as simple as the gas has been sitting there to long and it has separated and the engine is saying "HEY the cylinders are not firing at what they should be!". For me it was as simple as a spark plug was loose. Would just suggest to take it to a shop, unless you have a code reader to read the error.
