bypassing EGR Pros/Cons

Is it ok to disconect the top vacuum hose off the EGR valve to keep it from opening?

I have done this before with my 91 s-10 blazer, when either the modulator or egr was malfunctioning. Truck felt like tranny was slipping (egr opening before it should). So I plugged it, no more slipping feeling and drove fine. Only thing about the ECM in the 91 Blazers was sometimes it would throw the code and trigger the check engine light, causing timing to retard, but thats it. Saves a few bucks.

Anyways, can I do the same thing with my 92 camry v6? I plugged the top hose and so far, seems it pulls better. I can only think something in the egr controlling system is malfunctioning. I dont have the dough to buy any of these expensive parts.

Suggestions?

wel the egr basically dumps exhaust gas back into the intake to create inert gas in teh cylinder which results in less O2 and lower exhaust temp. when u block off or disengage the egr ur allowing more O2 into the cylinder so ya get a bigger ignition. this results in some freed up power in the lower RPMs. but ull throw a code, so basically ya have to block off the egr and then put a resistor on the sensor to trick the computer into thinking the egr is there. but if its working fine then id just leave it be.

Ive been getting periodical CEL light. Suspecting it's the egr or IAC actin up. idle is fine.
Does plugging only the top hose that comes from the egr do the trick?

So far, no codes yet.

Update:
Reconnected the top hose going to the EGR valve.

Cranked the car up this morning and get a CEL light.

Unplugged and capped the top hose going to the EGR, CEL light off.

Can you tell by this info if it's the VSV, Modulator, or EGR?
VSV Ohm resistence is 45. A hair high out of spec.

I get no CEL light when that hose is capped btw.

You can operate the valve via battery voltage to determine it it switches on/off. The valve should reroute the air flow between the center pipe and exhaust vent or end pipe.
