3rd Generation Help! This is badd...

Hey guys, Unfortunately, on my 92 cam with 200K miles, I just blew a head gasket the other day. As I was going down the road, I lost a little power and the steering wheel and car started to vibrate some, and when i slowwed to stop at a right light, the vibrations got much, much worse, as I just sat and idled. Then I looked in my rear view mirror, and saw all of the white smoke pouring out of my exhaust, and I then knew what I did. So for reassurance, I showed my dad and my shop class teacher at school (A trained toyota technician), both of who assured me it was definitely a blown head gasket. My dad had been wanting to replace the engine for a while now, since it had 200,000 on it, and found a nice one in cali all bored out with new pistons, etc. so this gave him an excuse to go ahead and buy it, but of course, it'll take 5-6 days to ship (ordered this past thursday) and a day or two to uninstall/install the old/new engines, so I've been out of a car for a while. So today, I was tampering around with some thing to see if I could get the car to run a little better to try and push it some to get me around (becuase hitching rides 24/7 SUCKS!) and by tampering with the throttle kick-back cable, it stopped the vibrations at idle and running speeds, however did nothing for the smoke. So now this is where my question comes in; is there any thing I can do as a temporary fix to stop the white smoke (steam from water getting into the cylinders) from coming out of the exhaust when its running/accelerating? I don't mind it, but it is a little embarrassing when you've stopped a major roadway because no one can see through the smoke, lol. So if there's something I can do to temporarily ease the amount, until we drop the new engine in so it's still publicly driveable, I'd appreciate the knowledge, because I reallllllly need a vehicle right now. Thanks guys!

That motor's toast, and nothing will help the blown HG. Not even for a little while. On top of that the coolant is probably leaking into the oil pan, and contaminating the oil. Just man up, and take the bus, or you can rent/borrow a car 'till you get the new motor in your car. Last resort would be a bicycle. If that motor seizes up on you while your out, you'll have to get it towed, and you'll be on the bus anyway.

Check the oil for water, if present the oil looks like a chocolate milkshake.

There are several additives that are sold to fix blown head gaskets. They might work great or just temporairily. I used Cargo (looks like a ot of copper flakes in a clear liquid. Wal-mart sells it for about $5) once and it worked great but mine was just a minor leak. Bars also puts out a couple of products. There are other, more expensive ones, that work better but since the replacement engine is on the way I doubt if you want to mess with them. Kind of like ghettosled says, you can try it and if it doesn't work, you're not out anything. If it does work-- great.

Thanks guys... Yeah we got a tracking number for the new engine, and it will be in PA on wednesday, and I'm in CT, so it should be here around thursday, friday at the latest. However, it will still take probably a couple days to be driveable, because I don't know how soon a garage is going to take us in for an engine swap, and if they'll do it over the weekend or not... In the meantime, I took it to school today and home, and with some tampering yesterday, I got rid of the vibrations, but not the smoke and smell, and I don't think I'm going to add any additives, just because it'd almost be a waste of money. I wanted to just drive it untill it seizes, however, I'd like to be able to at least drive it to a the garage for the engines last stop, rather than towing it there (expen$ive!). So I guess I'll just leave it alone, and keep catching rides from the gf (Pray for me please..) until my babys back up and running. Can't wait to hit the highway and open her up full throttle with the new eninge in it. Any precautions I should know about a newly installed engine, anything I should be careful of while breaking it in? Also, anyone need any parts off the old engine? Aside from the head gasket, everything else on it is perfectly fine, I always cleaned my engine (I don't know why, but I like it cleeen) so I'm going to part out what I can, and then scrap the rest (lots of aluminum parts=pretty decent payout :]) So if anyone needs anything, let me know, I'll give it to you cheap! It's the 3.0V6 btw. Again, thanks for the help and support!

-Derek
