93 Camry Wagon

Hi!

I am looking to buy a used station wagon to drive from SW USA down into Mexico. I have been looking a Subarus, but since Subaru is not a popular brand in Mexico, I am hesitant because I am not sure if the mechanics will be familiar with them or parts will be readily available, etc.

I recently found a 93 Camry Wagon for sale in my area. It has 147,000 miles and one owner since 98. I haven't met with guy yet, but he says he has a log of all the work done on it.

Is there anything specific I should look for? I mean, I should make sure the timing belt has been changed, head gaskets, no oil leaks, but are there any other major repairs I should make sure have been done?

The car is a good price, but I just want to be sure it isn't going to break down on me in the middle of the Mexican desert.

Any help from you forum users is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

there really isnt anything too out of the ordinary to look at in older camrys. the timing belt should have been done at 100k miles, but some people do hold off. its a non-interference motor, so the worst thing that can happen is youll have to have the car towed. really, other than the normal car-maintenance things, these are are very well built.
