3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I REAALLY dont recommend you to over inflate your tires...under inflate is better than over inflate. first of all, it'll eat up tread life a LOT faster
also, it'll put more stress on your suspension...and it might blow if you hit something....
I respectfully disagree. Well, I agree that OVER inflating tires is a bad idea....meaning going above the maximum psi written on the sidewall of the tire. But 35 psi when the recommend tire pressure is 30 psi (I thought it was 32 psi though) is fine. The maximum pressure on my 205/65/15 Kumho tires is 44 psi, so going over 45 would eat tread down the middle, and possibly cause suspension problems, as well as generate extra squeaks and rattles.

I'm the biggest boss thatchu seen thus far! Baby, that's muh wi'zzard!
I live about 68 miles from my work place, and I was driving my 96 Dodge Ram daily. At 17MPG, that's 8 gallons burned every day. When I started, it was bad enough because it was a little less than $3/gallon where I live. With the kick to nearly $4 locally, that's 8 x 3.80 x 5 x 4.33 = $658 monthly for GAS. OUCH.
I decided to pull the old 92 Camry SE V6 5-speed out of mothball status, get some work done on it, and start driving it again. It's been giving me 25-26MPG, which isn't bad considering she has 163,000 miles, that about 15 of my 68 miles are city driving with stoplights and such, and that 45 of the miles are on the highway at 80MPH, where the 3VZ-FE is pushing 3000+ RPM. Oh for a sixth cog.
Sadly, even at 25MPG, that's $448 monthly for gas. That's $160 more than the monthly payments I made when I bought the car!

I average 19mpg highway! I have a 92 Camry V6 XLE. 174,000 miles, original tranny, rebuilt engine 900 miles ago.
Done the usual prevent's (fuel filter, plugs, seafoamed, vac. lines, new alt( ) , Timing adjust(was 15, now 10), checked the resistence of the tps, emissions vsv's, I just dont know.
O2's are new far as I know(from guy I bought it from), IAC works, cleaned ACIS, Im baffled.

if you just rebuilt the engine, then your mileage won't be what it will/should be until your break it in...so check again in 2000 miles

My 1MZ averages anywhere from a low (rare) of 12 MPG up to 16 MPG city driving - usually somewhere in between. That's a 3 mile trip in the morning and in the afternoon. My 2AZ tends to average 16.5 - 18.5 MPG under slightly worse conditions. At that rate the car never has a chance to reach operating temp so fuel economy sucks. I take them out on the weekend for a long drive to make sure the engine can breathe a bit.
On the highway, the 1MZ has gotten 26-27 MPG and the 2AZ about 30 MPG. I use premium in the 1MZ and regular in the 2AZ. Both octanes have 10% ethanol so I can't comment on whether 'regular' gasoline helps fuel economy much.
I keep track of fuel economy on each fill up (I figure if there is a significant drop that's a good indicator there's a problem) but I've given up on trying to increase fuel economy. My driving habits are hard on any car..

Damn, that sucks. I owned 2 camry, 93' I-4 2.2 litre 256k mileage and 98' V6 3.0 Litre. 175k mileage
I get 400mile on 93 camry for doing 100 mph. if doing 65-70 I will get nearly by 500 mile, the full tank is 17.5gal ((accrate to 516 mile to ranout of tank.
so I got my 98' v6 since few month, I love it so much. I study and noitce that v6 does thirsy alot gas in city to get 280-340 in hard accerating- in highway i make it 470 mile ((accurate to 499 mile to ranout of tanks. I was doing 100-135 mph all the way for 734mile in 6 hours with 2 tanks so i figured 367 mile for highspeed. Camry will slow the engine if hit at 138 mph by goverment chip.
((I filled up by relugar gas for both, -- will test on 89 and 93 to see the result mpg))

on my 98 camry with an i4 using 87 octane i usually get 19/20 mpg all city. i did a trip to nyc not too long ago and i got like 28 mpg all highway witch i loved since my last car a 91 buick century got 16 city 20 highway =P
My 92 4 banger auto gets 425-450 kms like clockwork. That seems way too low to me. Maybe the bigger tires are killing the mileage ( increased rolling resistance ) and the fact that there is no flat ground anywhere in this city.
