Question Tow Hitch for Gen 4 - anyone have one they liked?

Hello forum,

My dad's 97 needs a trailer hitch. He just wants to tow small stuff once or twice a year for low miles, under 500lbs.

Anyone have an aftermarket hitch they really liked and bolted up easily? There are a bunch of options but no clear way to distinguish the good from the rust in five minutes / PITA to install type.

Thanks!
Mike

Try U Haul. Their hitches are competively priced and widely available.
I got my Camry hitch there and it appears to be the nicest looking one.
It is a rounder tubular type of frame as appose to the square type
frame. The hitch also comes with a life time rust warranty.

I put a light duty hitch on my wife's 98 about 5 or 6 years ago. I only used it to mount a bike rack. If it is still the same today, go on Reese Products website and find the part number for the one designed for your car. Then you can go to Wal-mart's auto and sporting goods department and have them order it for you. That way you will get a great deal on a light duty hitch designed specifically for your car. They bolt in easily with 2 bolts on each side. They go where the tie down brackets go in the rear. You may have to remove the tie down brackets first, if your car came from Japan, but the Kentucky built generation 4's don't come with the brackets. The holes will still be there. Call Reese Products and talk to their customer service department. They were a big help to me a few years back.

Be sure to check on your muffler to see if it the hitch clears.

When I sold my old camry I kept the hitch and bolted it on the new one. For some reason the muffler was touching although I was 100% certain of my installation procedure. Didn't really notice (dumb me) until I started the car and the muffler banged on the hitch and now I got leaks around my exhaust gaskets.
