they are good if you do a retrofit.. if you just leave them them within your headlight then your going to glare incoming traffic and that could end up getting you a ticket from popo

there was a post earlier about another type of bulbs that are really bright (white light, no other colors) that don't require a hid kit to be installed..

i can't seem to find the post though, so if anyone remembers please add a link

the casing of the bulbs had to be shaved off a little though.. :S i wish i could remember.

retrofit means adding new technology to old things.
in this case, they're talking about adding what look like "eyes" to the car's headlights that you have now.

take a look at the bottom pic

or shajbot's signature where he's got a pic of a gen 3 camry with those kinds of lights

check out hidplanet.com .. it's a whole forum dedicated to hid lightings and different cars. I think i remember seeing a tutorial there once too about camry's and how to turn your lights into retro's..

i remember asking someone in this forum once about them and they priced out around $500 for a set of them, which i'd have to make myself, the 500 was just the cost of the materials.

yeah usually eBays are like cheap branded HID lights... which is a definitely +1 for glaring incoming traffic.

just to be clear, you cannot just get Xenon HID bulbs. you have to get an HID KIT. simply getting the bulbs wont work. the retrofit they are refering to is installing projectors in to teh factory housings which allow for better lights distribution when using HIDs...and they look cool too, not real easy to do, kind of expensive to do and time consuming. if you do get an HID kit and do not retrofit the housings then ull HAVE to make sure the kit you get has bulb sheilds to minimize glare.

yeah.. what he said..

lol

also i've been told that headlights that are black ie these...

would also restrict the glare.

the thing with the projector lights is that the bulb is actually position directly forward and surrounded by a casing so it has no other option but to illuminate directly ahead itself.. allowing you to properly position the lights..so you dont have any rays shooting in different directions.

read this thread.. it talks about different types of bulbs you can get that will give you a higher light output then the regular bulbs and how to go about installing them into your car..there is still a little "tweaking" you need to do to the bulbs, but it seems pretty worth it.
More Light For Those With 9006 Headlights

enjoy.

If you are talking about the 9005 modified bulbs then yes they will fit your 99 Camry. You can find them at Autozone I believe or if you live in Canada I know Canadian Tire carries Silverstar Ultras in 9005 bulb size which have a good rep. I'm picking up a set of them tomorrow.
