Help Plz!!!

I have a 97 camry and i want to put a new shifter in it. Its an automatic, but i found one that had the button shift but no O/D button. Is there any way to easily relocate or just remove the button but still have the O/D on. I never change it to off so if there was a way to make it just stay on that would be appreciated. Thanks!!

There are after market automatic shift knobs that have an auxiliary button on them but you may need to do a little searching to find one you like. However if you are content with getting rid of your O/D button altogether, all you have to do is figure out if O/D is on when that switch is open or closed (I drive a 5 speed so I have no experience with this button on Camrys). If O/D is on when the switch is closed all you have to do is connect the wires leading to the switch together, tape them with electrical tape and hide them somewhere. If O/D is on when the circuit is open then just leave the wires unconnected and tape the ends so they are not exposed.

Someone else may be able to tell you which it is. If you have a multimeter or test light you can check yourself. I assume if you own an multimeter or test light you know how to use it. If not you may be able to tell once you have your old shifter apart depending on the type of switch it is.

Good luck and I hope this helped.

No problem. Just make sure to leave no exposed wire or it may cause you problems in the future.

i just switched out my knob a few weeks ago on my 97, pretty easy and being 2 wires you could easily just put a switch on the console, or turn the overdrive on, clip and tape the wires.

i got a brushed aluminium one from an auto store. it had no OD button on it so i jsut cut my wires(which youd have to do anyways to remove the stock shifter) and then remote mounted the switch, works perfectly and i dont have a bulky shifter. i also cut the physical shifter stalk and shortened the whole thing down to about 6" to the top of the shifter. looks real sporty.

if ya do do this ya have to be carful to leave the actual gear change lever longer then the shifter stalk or the button wont work.
