Maybe when you cranked it the extra load on the circuit blew a fuse.
^ but it went out AS i was driving...
and where would this fuse be? i checked all the fuses under the hood and by the kick panel and NONE of them sre out..

check the back of the radio itself maybe. I know a lot of aftermarket radios have a built in fuse.
Seriously though, if you find it is the head unit thats fucked I would just drop the cash for a decent aftermarket one. Nothing beats MP3 compatibility.
same thing happened to me. the external amplifier probably blew. It is located under the passenger seat, and is a small black box. You can either replace this, but I'd recommend just getting a new HU (it'll be cheaper)
did you check the where you splice the wires in? i did that same thing and it ripped the tinsel off the 6x9 and once both wires touch each other it shorts out the system..

Even if it is the spliced wires, it shouldn't affect the front speakers. I think its the deck. You don't have to blow a fuse for it to stop working. It is working, just not correctly.
Not sure about the external amp though since I never heard of it.
