3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
NGK and Denso plugs and wires are probably the most recommended here.
Plugs should be platinum plugs. Last time I bought NGK plugs, the difference was about US$0.50 per plug between the regular and platinum plugs so I got the platinum ones. I don't know how the price will vary in Australia.

The Camry is a car that I can rip out someone's pride, stab it, beat it, and completely bash their egos, and it's so ridiculous that the person comes back with a hysterical laugh... ROFL They got trainlengthed by a Camry that in their mind, was a 18 sec car.
Me to ATM, well just platinum (is there a difference?). I had some problems with my car and thought 1 of my plugs fouled out so I bought the only ones I could get at 11pm with Walmart being the only place open.
I was told there actually better then oem

Double platinums have a platinum chip on the center and side electrode. Regular platinums only have a platinum chip on the center electrode. The spark eventually erodes both electrodes, but platinum is more resistant to eroding so it's allows the spark plug gap to remain stable longer meaning longer service interval for the plug.

Thanks for all the reply's. I installed some ngk bkr6reIX-11iridium's today and bang, I could feel the difference straight up. Fair enough my old plugs did need replacing but the difference is definately worth the money in my opinion.
Double platinums have a platinum chip on the center and side electrode. Regular platinums only have a platinum chip on the center electrode. Double platinums are only needed on cars with waste spark ignition system because the plug fires from both the center and side electrode depending on the stroke. The spark eventually erodes the electrode where it originates, but platinum is more resistant to eroding so it's only needed on the electrode where the spark fires from.
The 5S-FE in gen 4 have waste spark ignitions and I think some if not all 1MZ-FE are like this. The distributorless ones for sure are since there's only three coil IIRC.
Thanks for clearing that up for me!

If your old plugs were really old and worn, then any new plug would have made a noticeable improvement. It's not necessarily due to the plugs using iridium.
