99 camry transmision pan gasket-repost

Hello all,
This is a repost of an earlier message. I'm reposting in the hopes of getting some more responses. Sorry if you've already read this.

I recently took my 1999 camry to the local Toyota dealership to check the A/C, and they said that the trasmission pan was leaking and that the gasket needed replacement. Does anyone know how much this would cost? They did give me a quote, but I am choosing not to mention the number here, so that I don't bias anyone who may respond

I am a little wary, because I never see any patches on the ground even after I have parked overnight at the same spot.

Thanks so much for your help.
Mathew

I dont know how much labor will cost but i have recently dropped my pan to drain my fluid and at autozone i bought a kit with a gasket and transmission filter and it was less than $20...Its pretty easy with the right tools but its a lil bit messy

Yeah its as easy as dropping the pan and changing you fluid. The newer Camrys just use a bead of silicone sealent but i always just use a gasket and sealer instead, even if i have to make it myself. (The silicone IMO is a cheap half measure that will get you through the warranty period but will almost certainly leak sooner or later.)

Whatever you use, the bottom line is that the job is very easy. What makes it even easier is that you can drain the fluid from the pan before you remove the pan - so much less messy. I think 45 mins labor at absolute most + $10 for a gasket or gasket maker.
