Thanks Mike.

I'm having this intermittent problem where the engine hesitates every second or so when the rpm takes a dive and the lights dim down. I had it "diagnosed" at the stealership and they told me that the wires and the ignition coil is bad and suggested replacing them including the sparkplugs. I replaced the wires, plugs, distributor cap, and the rotor only three months ago when the problem appeared but it didn't cure it. Anyway, I suspect it might be the ignition coil that's causing these hiccups. Is there any way to check whether or not the ignition coil is operating correctly? Can Autozone/Checkers test it for you?

I found this guy selling new aftermarket coils for thirty bucks (including shipping):

What do you think? Do you think it's a good product? Thanks much for your help.

You can do static tests on the coil (see manual) right on the engine. To remove the coil you need to take the distributor body off of the engine to access the four screws that hold the coil in place. Remember to mark the position of the dist. body relative to the engine (as it twists it changes the timing), remember the position of the rotor (though I don't believe you can get these in back wards anymore), be gentle with the wiring, and remember that it is an aluminum block when you're tightening the bolts back up (a torque wrench is a great tool).

As Kep said you can test the coil. You will need the specs from any manual and a digital volt/ohmeter. If you don't have a manual, you can download the factory one for free at the Toyota Camry forum on AutomotiveForums.com. It is stickied at the top of that page. It's actually a 94 manual.
