Stock brakes - do I have some kind of upgrade?

I bought a used 2001 Camry LE and it's time for new brake pads. I went and ordered EBC Ultimax Pads, which are supposed to be OEM replacements, and heres what I got:

Box shows Correct Item Number for my vehicle. UD-562 - 2001 Toyota Camry 2.2l

Stock Pad Fitment

EBC Ultimax Fitment (does not extend to outer lip of rotor and does not even fit into caliper clip.)

Ultimax Pad on top of Stock Pad

What gives? I went ahead and got the brakes exchanged, thinking the wrong brakes were packaged in the box. I just got my other set and they are the exact same size as the first package. I'm unaware of any larger brake upgrades for the various Camry models. I thought there was just a difference between regular pads and the ceramics the v6 models get. Aren't they supposed to be the same size though?

Please help me out here, I'm going crazy

The is probably a different pad for the I4 and the V6. Did you order by engine size?

Brakes are different between the V6 and the I4. The V6 has bigger brakes.

I have an I4 2.2 liter and I ordered based on that. Does anyone recall if the I4 2.2l had any sort of option for brake upgrades? I really don't think it was upgraded by the previous owner, but can't imagine why I would have v6 brakes otherwise.

Try taking one of your old brake pads down to the closest parts store. Ask the parts counter person to show you the stock brake pads for both the I4 and the V6. Compare them to your old pads.

Finally got around to my brakes over the weekend. The problem was EBC!!! The EBC brake listing for Camry's only have two options, I4 or V6 models.

While looking for brakes elsewhere (autozone, tirerack, etc) I saw 3 options:

I4 14" wheels
I4 15" wheels
V6

Picked up a set of pads from autozone and confirmed the brakes I had matched up. I needed I4 15" wheel brake pads. So FYI to anyone interested in buying EBC brake pads...

Luckily Summit Racing was very helpful in with the returns.

Did you do the rotors too?

I need more stopping performance in my v6.

Recommendations?

I heard Brembo rotors and hawk pads?

Yes, for 2000-1 the I4 has two different brakes depending on original wheel size. The one with 15" wheels has the same front brakes as some Gen 3 V6.

If you're just driving on the street, just get the smooth Brembo rotors. Drilled and slotted rotors provide no benefit other than perceived performance appearance. There is debate about the drilled ones being brittle.

Hawk pads are good and are slightly better than stock setup. HOwever, you will have squeal noise when the brakes are cold.

Hi TouringCamry,

Do you have a link for the smooth brembo rotors? Could not find on their site. Thanks!

They have them on tirerack as well as other sites. They're the plain face rotors that look like your stock ones.
