Well...I went to the junkyard today and tore the dash out of a 93 camry. I think Ive found my problem with the 'no air coming out of center vents' issue. The main cause I think was this piece that is broken and not allowing the push-rod to stay in/connected to the damper arms.
Can ANYONE help me find these things? I dont even know what to call them so that I CAN search for them. I know the same type connectors are used in the doors, but I believe they are of a different size.
ANYONES help would be AWESOME!!! I need A/C soooooooooooooooooooobad!!

you're not going to find it anywhere but from toyota....if you're lucky.
Go to your local toyota parts guy and ask him to see the diagrams until you can point out what you took out. If you're lucky, it'll be sold separately and you can just buy it.
Your other option is to go to a junkyard and tear a camry apart until you find the same piece
it'll be cheaper at a junkyard, but a lot more work

Struck out at Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, Oreilly Auto Parts AND the dealership!
The 3 parts stores had some, but they were for Ford, GM, etc. They looked a little big. The dealership only had ones for the doors....slightly too big as well...not to mention it cost almost $6 for ONE!
Surely SOMEONE has come across these somewhere else. Ebay had an assortment of them for $25 shipped. Says they are for the doors but one of them may fit.
Can anyone help with another option of getting the rod to stay where it's supposed to stay? BTW, this is for the A/C outlet servomotor rod.

I talked to my dad and he gave me some ideas since i struck out everywhere.
He said that I can use one of those push-lock cap/washer type things, which home depot and lowes carry....OR...I can drill a small hole and use a cotter pin with a washer.
I think Im gonna try the cotter pin with washer first...gotta make sure I have a small enough drill bit. Ill take pics of my progress in case any ever needs to do this again. At this point..getting this rod back in and working is the ONLY thing holding me back from getting A/C in my car!

WTF is wrong with my junkyard they don't even let me touch anything!
Some, if not most places don't let you take their stuff apart. A lot of people are in a hurry and destroy parts on the car (like in your case, the dash) that they could potentially sell.

LoL...when I said 'tore', I didnt really 'tear' it out....I pulled it out the proper way, just had to cut a couple ground wires to move things along. And I dont want to hear them complaining! I took so much stuff out the next people who want something just have to look in the back seat!

Going along with the cotter pin idea. Consider putting a piece of plastic tubing on the shaft to keep from damaging the ear that it presses on and consider using just the washer-looking piece of the broken part to keep the clearance between the arm and the ear correct.
It's a long shot but there are all sorts of fasteners for protecting electrical wires going through metal casings (computers, TVs, etc). You might luck out and find one that would work.

Both ears are metal...so this SHOULDNT be an issue. The plastic, like what WAS on there, will eventually break due to both metal pieces rubbing on it anyway.

Good idea! I will do that just to keep the play out of it.

Another good idea! I didnt think about that when looking for a replacement piece.
Thanks for the input!
On a side note...has anyone here ever gone this far into the dash with the plan of putting it back in? Just wondering.

Well, what I ended up doing was getting some C clips and small aluminum washers. Put the broken plastic piece on like in the pics above, attached it to the ear, put the aluminum washer on and then the C clip. The C clip was holding pretty good, but I did NOT want to have to pull the dash to fix this again, so I put some JB Weld over the end. Works like a charm!!
Reciever/drier and expansion valve are on their way and then Ill be chargin' this thing up!
w00t!! Cant WAIT to have A/C!!

Glad you got it working. Hoping to get my AC working myself. Have to replace one of the valves so I can retrofit it.
One of the best resources are the HELP! parts for hard to get/find/don't make parts. If they don't make it and your dealership can't get then it leaves usually only your local wreckers to go through.
The u-pull yards in some parts seem to be getting less and less. The ones I went to in Seattle a few years ago are now all gone.
Around here we're pretty lucky and I know of five or six that are still around. Three are pretty large as well.
