3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Has anyone actually got an aftermarket sunroof/moonroof put in? Or shoved a stock one into a normal roof?
I just really want one, and wondering if anyone got one installed, tried installing, or know how to do it.
Thanks.

I think some did, though general consensus is its too much of an headache. Some stock moonroofs won't even stop leaking, forget about aftermarket ones.
mine is aftermarket; i had it put in 2003 - and its the most expensive headache i ever put on. Between an assload of rattles and having to chase down why there's water in my trunk .. i'd take that $1800 back in a second.
there was already a thread but like i stated in the other thread.. if you want it that bad then go for it.. i bought my car with the aftermarket sunroof already put in.. after a year or so of acutally using it. and it start with little by little stupid stuff going wrong then one day its started to leak.. then it wouldnt close all the way.. then i took out the mechanical arms and levels and glue the sucka shut.. and btw, it doesnt flow to well with the roof line..

I can't imagine why you would want to add a sunroof/moonroof. I was seriously considering removing mine from my old Scepter. I hated it that much.
+1

It's your car if you want a moonroof go for it. I am having one put in my 2000 Camry on the 11th. It is a Webasto, the same company makes the OEM roofs that Toyota installs at the factory. A Webasto dealer in Ontario, CA is installing it for $1000 out the door. Once it's installed I will post pictures.
Sunroof leaks: Almost all sunroof leaks (aftermarket and factory installed) are caused by clogged drain lines. The seal around the glass is not completely water tight and when some of the 2 or 4 water drains get clogged the water overflows the plastic pan/frame of the moonroof and then leaks into the interior. Keep the drains clean and clear=no leaks. Get it professionally installed to insure it is done properly.
To everyone that says just buy another car at least in my case, I probably own one of the rarest Camrys' that anyone on this site has. It doesn't use gasoline as it is a factory CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) powered car. The best thing is I fill up at home for $1.50 a gallon. I will keep this car till the wheels fall off. There were only 300 of these imported into the US in 99 and 00.
