3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Has anybody done the switch from the DX Camry's 195-70-14 wheels/tires to the SE's 205-65-15 wheels/tires?
Specifically, I want to know if your ride improved. I have brand new KYB-GR2's all around. How is that combination (the 15 inchers) on potholes and road cracks? Do you get a lot of intrusion into the cabin and floorboards?
I actually want to soften my ride. I think in a year or so when the struts wear a little it probably will loosen up a little, but it's pretty d#$m stiff for an old guy like me.

the spedo will be fine with either. you wont have to worry bout that if your making as small a change as 60-65 on such a narrow tire anyways. as for comfort the 14s will be better. more side wall will be more comfortable.
The comfort comes down to the tire you chose. My Camry had 14" wheels from the factory, but I now have a set of 15" wheels from a 2002 Camry. It's hard to make a direct comparison as my 14"ers were shot to hell (bald).....but everything did improve, quieter, better ride, handling, grip (obviously). Do it!

I'm the biggest boss thatchu seen thus far! Baby, that's muh wi'zzard!
Both were OEM, with the size depending on which options you got. If you opted for ABS or the V6, you got 15" wheels (and disk brakes on the rear). Everything else got 14"ers. Springing for the XLS package might have gotten you 15"ers too, I don't recall for sure.
