3rd Generation What tool works best to take off the oil filter on a 94 camry V6?

Hey guys I'm trying to get the oil filter off of my 1994 Camry V6 and I'm running into this problem. I have an oil filter wrench but how the hell do you take it off in such a tight area? Is there a nice tool that is better for the tighter work because when I took it through a lube express how the hell are they able to take it off quick? If you guys could tell me how your able to do it I'll appreciate it. thanks

I use a regular old oil filter wrench. The handle bends, and I have to bend it about 90 degrees to get it to fit properly. Then I start unscrewing the filter in very small increments until I can unscrew it by hand. Key is to start slow.

Gotta wait until the headers are cool to touch, then use a rag and start torquing that wrist of yours.

that best friend looks nice too... but why spend money when you dont have to...

I once used a screw driver, hammered it into the side of the fliter and used that for torque... gonna throw the filter out anyway..

I just use my hands with a rag under the filter, and indeed, avoid touching the headers (ouch) or wait for them to cool a bit.

My one roommate complains about how easy the filter is to get to on my Camry. He always burns himself trying to get his out of his E30

i just changed oil on my 94 V6, and i used a cup (from walmart) that cap on the oil filter, and a ratch with a short extension to turn it. just barely enough room to put everything in place to turn it.

I had this same problem last week. I used a regular oil filter wrench as well.

So part of the "rotation" of the wrench actually just increases the tension on the filter itself. If you can, preload the tension on the filter wrench with your other hand before rotating the wrench.

I use this if I can't get the filter off by hand.

Once I change the oil, I put the filter on and only hand tighten, then I am able to loosen it by hand the next time.

I wear disposable rubber gloves when I'm doing an oil change. If you clean the filter off first with some degreaser like Simple Green, the rubber gloves give excellent grip and make it much easer turning the filter by hand.

Mainly you don't let a quick lube place change your oil. When you put on the filter put oil on the rubber gasket, tighten it all the way by hand and then back it off 1/4 turn. I use a leather glove when removing it so I don't burn my wrist.

I have used the "best friend" and it works like a charm. Curiously, only need it after having paid someone to service my car...
