4th Generation Remote start for a Camry

Here in Texas it was 102 by mid-day!

I was thinking about putting a remote keyless start in my Gen 4 so the car could be cool when I went to it. Right now when I got off work and sat in it it felt like the sauna at the gym!

Here's the one I was eyeing:

How much do these normally run?

What should one expect to pay for professional nstallation?

you might want to consider buying one on ebay...those price seem outrages....when i was looking for mine...those bulldog one didnt go for too high around 30-40ish can be lower....i got an autocommand for about 32$... it pretty easy to install...so you might want to consider installing it urself... i follow this DIY from http://www.geocities.com/ycartf/index.html otherwise i guess u can go do it at radio shop. i think Circuit City charge 120 + 80 for a crappy remote starter...best to buy own, my friend did his and got a crappy remote starter 300ft range for 220 total. i got mine w/ alarm, remote starter, keyless entry for about 40ish + time and efforts... learn stuff in the process

also, i not sure if this matter or not...but consider going for universal kit, not the Toyota specific seem way too costly

I used a "Black Widow" brand remote start/keyless entry unit.....installed it about 3 years ago and it works flawlessly. Installation was a major job IMO, I soldered all connections, it took me the better part of a weekend.

Somewhat off-topic, but I was looking for a 2-way alarm system without remote start (Viper 5002) and no one seemed to carry it or knew anything about it. It did show up on the Viper sight though. However, I saw some Python systems and I was told that they are exactly the same as any Viper system. One guy said they're made by the same company, just under a different name. Is there any difference besides the name?

As someone who is looking at possibly getting the Viper 5900 myself, I have been doing some comparison shopping and I have been able to find the Viper 5900 for slightly less than $210 including shipping through a couple of the storefronts at www.Pricegrabber.com which is the cheapest place I could find it. I also am considering the Viper 791xv and have been able to find it for as low as $140 + $10-$15 shipping from www.12v-electronics.com

installing one isnt really that difficult as long as you have the wiring diagrams at hand. I just did mine with a remote start, entry and alarm the other day The system i bought is here. http://cgi.ebay.com/Crimestopper-Com...QQcmdZViewItem

it only took two hours to do and i was taking my time.

all you do is match the wires to your car wires, its pretty straight forward
Here are diagrams for a gen 4 camry
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/2042.html

if you decide to use those diagrams match it with your year cause i just picked 1997 for gen 4. also there are differences in i4 and v6.
