3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am planning to do this but, I have NEVER seen anyone do it before. Only like 2 cars on youtube and those were celicas (5sGTE Turbo). Some people say the heads bolt up Directly and some say you have to cut the block...soo i don't know? I found a website who sells the GE heads and i'm going to buy but need to find out everything first.
95 Camry
Custom CAI
Custom Headers
15" Volk Wheels lol
10,000 Deep Blue HIDs
Front Lip off a Ford Tarus haha
1MZ still isnt a performance engine, though .... economy head, just like the 5S
if he really wants to get some work done, the 3SGTE would be the best for a project without having to do much work .... once the swap is done, you can just throw some bolt-ons on like the MR2 guys and have fun

the one positive is a 1mz would be a LOT cheaper. 3sgte is sick, but 99.8% of the people posting here dont have the knowledge to swap it, including myself
have a shop jig up some mounting points if you cant fab yourself, and the rest is just removing 5S-FE parts and inserting the 3S-GTE with all its attached stuff
swapping is more time consuming than difficult, if you can remain organized & read instructions

its not worth it reguardless. want a fast car...sell yours.
but if your gonna do it anyways then the 3sgte will cost MUCH more and take MUCH longer. but ull get better gains once ya start modding the engine. the 1mz id only do if you planned on S/C or turboing it WITH a 5 speed. much cheaper, better TQ but its not a very strong engine past 9 psi so upgrading would be needed.
read a Celica/MR2 3S-GTE engine manual, the instructions will be approx the same - you just have to realize when they say "put x here", it will be in a diff place on the Camry

dude, jus get a 4th gen celica ( like mine) or early 90's mr2in that case, dont spend tha time on a camry to do this IMO, than again i am EXTREMELY biased

yeah i know...ive seen then posted before, just though that comment was funny.
but yeah, ONLY cosider a swap with the camry if you LOVE your camry, cuz a smaller car like a celica, corolla or MR2 with the same engine will be a MUCH better base for a build and you will enjoy it much more. not only that but u have more commonality as far as swaps so more people to help. there are only a couple of people around here who can actually help ya with the swap and i promise no write up avalible will get ya through it without help. teh V6 swap is MUCH easier and cheaper since it came from a camry. the 1mz or 3vz engines are pretty common as well, so pretty cheap.
