Angry Broken Rear gear in gearbox? :-(

Hi folks.

Got this Camry 2.2 automatic 1993. 220.000km. full sevice manual. Had it for about a month now. No problems at all.

But then suddently yesterday i was driving home and enterede the parking area and hit the rear gear as normal to park the car. But nothing happens. What the f... i put it in Drive again and the car goes forward. But nothing happens when i put it in rear.

Then i tried to give it som rpm. I need about 4000-5000 rpm and then i humps backwards in steps.

What it happening? I checked the gear oil while in drive and engine running. all full so not missing oil.

I bought a toyota because of the quality but what now? is the gearbox dead now? Dont know anything about automatic gearboxes and neither do my mechanic friends.

(only 5% of the cars in my country uses automatic gears)

Hope to get some help. This sounds expensive?

Ur transmission is history, kaput!!...sorry to give ya the bad news. Yes, it is expensive to repair. Try to find a lower mileage replacement at a Junk Yard.

could it be something as simple as the shift cable being out of adjustment?

this will be of no help, but my buddy had something similar happen to his old dodge omni (i think that was the model). forward gears worked well, so he made sure to either park in spots he wouldnt have to back out of, face up-hill so he can roll back, or bring a buddy to push him back. man, he drove this car like that for years.

Hi again.

When i startet the car today i could feel slightly the same problem as yesterday. But now the reverse was a little better. slowly rolling back itself.

Now i could also feel it a bit when i drive forward. go a little hi in RPM but doesnt bite..

Well i drove to work and when i was parking the gear felt completely as i should. Both forward and backward. WTF?

I wonder how the car drive when i need to go home after work.

Do you think its the gear oil that is bad or maybe the cables? Thought of that too.

I just can't understand if the gearbox is gone. It ships so nicely between gears. Can't feel the shifting when driving economy. I had a Honda before with automatic and it doesnt shift as good as the toyota so i can't understand if this one is done.

We have so many Camry's that come and go on this forum, generally when that happens the gearbox is gone. I think you are the lucky one where it comes back.
