My 93 camry over heated on saturday it was because my radiator cracked but i fixed it and now my car is starting to feel weired it starts having this drops at idle and wont take off like normal i was told by a buddy that it could be my catalytic converter but i dont know please help
Sounds like you need to do a leak down test and a compression test. This will tell you the condition the internals are in. As long as you didn't drive to long with it overheating usually nothing will happen to the engine itself. The first thing to go is the headgasket (which may be what happened in this case). Do a leakdown test, that will tell you if you blew or tore up your head gasket.
i drove it about 2 to 4 minutes before i realized it was over heating and if i had a blown gasket wouldn't the car loose power when i push on the gas and wouldn't i have radiator fluid mixing in with my oil so i called the dealer where i got the car from and they said they would check it out no charge and they have there own shop and i know the guys that work there any other ideas on what it could be?
ya a little bit but i just got back from the shop they said head gasket is blown told me flush out radiator and engine and use gasket sealent they sell at pepboys and see if that will work they told me it wasnt to much water in engine so it might work gone try it i hope it works because they told me it was about $650 to replace. Is there a particular brand of head gasket sealent that any one knows works? please help
first off... Welcome to Toyota Nation! glad you found us.
When you start a thread, plaese use a title that give a clue to what you are talking about... everyone needs some sort of help. please be a little more specific.
what did the shop tell you they did to come to the conclusion that the head gasket is blown? sometimes shops may say things that aren't true TO
If you're confident that you have a head gasket leak, I have successfully used a product called "Cargo" (sold all over, usually stocked by WalMart). AutoZone has a store labeled product that is the same (Clear bottle with copper flakes in the bottom) though I forget its name. Good side, it sealed up my leak. Bad side, my water pump must have been leaking too because it sealed the shaft of that as well. Since I needed a new timing belt anyway... Also, I removed my thermostat while I was treating the engine. Read the directions on the bottle. You will need to use plain water for the treatment and drain out the antifreeze (save it and reuse it if it's good).

sorry about that and they said it was blown because theres water in the oil but not to much also a family friend who is a mechanic checked it out and said the same thing he said he would do it for $300 as long as i helped him and he would get all the parts and would get me the best parts he could find replace my trans filter, oil, spark plugs and wires for the same price as long as i help does that sound like a good price he also told me not to do a quick fix because in the long run it would make it worse and plus i will have the money to do it in two weeks he would even get me a new radiator for the same price so pretty much he is just charging me for parts

That sounds like a great offer. Take him up on it, especially if you plan on keeping the car. If you are only trying to get another couple of months out of the car, then try the stuff in a bottle.
Personally, I'm not a fan of quick fixes in a bottle. Sometimes they do more harm than good. Anything poured in to the cooling system to stop leaks will also do some harm to the water pump and the heater core, IMHO.
^ agreed 100%... like the fix-a-flat... it ruins the tire so there is no way to patch it if you wanted to go that route and sometimes complicates the replacement process for the tire guys...
and that is a great offer... I hope you mean 300 to do the HG and 300 more to do the other stuff... because a HG, wires, plugs and a filter might run you about 200 bucks in parts only.
A way to find out if its the headgasket is the smoke coming out the exhaust will smell like coolant. Also you can do a leakdown test and i'll bet you will hear air escaping the head.
Thenks alot guys for the reply's i am goin to fix it not do a quick fix because i am going to keep the car so thanks again and i will post up when its up and running
