Odd oil leak from cam breather

I have a 96 Toyo Camry (1mz motor) and the other day I happened to be under the hood looking at something and I noticed something odd. the intake we had on the car is somewhat of a make shift intake from a couple old pipes and couplings we had laying around. Theres no hole for the breather line coming from the top of my valve cover so to protect anything from getting in there I put one of those tiny little breather filters on the end of the hose and now I noticed the little filter is covered in this grimy dirt that I believe to be oil and dirt. obviously its been leaking for a while to accumulate dirt like that.

I was wondering if any one has had this happen to them or any ideas or what the problem (if any) is.

Thanks in advance,
Robbie

if it's not excessive, then it's normal...oil fumes in the breather will also make dirt/grime stick

i have the breather hole plugged....
is it better to plugg it or have it connect to a vacuum valve

or like he did put a tiny filter on it

I am not an expert, but I would assume there's pressure behind it since gases normally exit through there, so my thinking tells me it should be able to breathe freely. Normally these gases are recirculated through the intake pipe. Just today I actually removed my breather filter and reattached the hose from the outlet to the intake.

unplug it...it is there to vent gas....similar to the pcv....if you don't let the pressure out, then chances are that you'll blow seals

yup yup...either a small breather (which works, but can dirty up your engine bay with tis fumes, which grim sticks to) or drill a hole in your intake pipe and jbweld on a fitting so that you can run your hose to it
