3rd Generation axle/cv boot removal

I just picked up '95 v6 xle from ebay with 97k miles. It failed MD safety inspection because the cv boots are torn. I was able to get the drivers side drive axle out to replace it, but I can't get the passenger side out. The manual says "pull firmly". I scoff, we hit it with a crow bar and sledge hammer and it will not come out. I was thinking about just getting a split boot cover but I dont want one side to be new and the other to be 13 years old. Does anyone know how to get it out?
Thanks

Did you remove the intermediate support?
Outer boot right?

A split boot kit is not a bad idea if you can clean the CV joint out and see that it is still smooth.

if you intend to only replace the inner and outter cv boot, you DO NOT need to pull the axle out of the transmission, separate the axle at the inner boot, and just regrease and put a new inner boot right on the car.
it will save all your effort and ATF trying to pull the axle out of tranny housing

on the driver's side, you don't have to pull the axle out of the differential, just take the allen bolts off connecting the half-shaft and outter axle and take the outter axle out

We just replace the drivers side axle...man oh man did you have to yank and pull to get that thing out of there. It took two uncles with crowbars and one person pulling to get it out. Good times.

i had thought about taking the allen bolts off and seperating it while on the car, however, while doing the drivers side, after pulling the entire assembly out, the two parts were so stuck together that I had to take a crowbar and hammer to that repeatedly before it finally seperated. I speculate that the same thing will occur on the other side which is why i don't want to do that.

that's some bad luck...

but you'll have even less luck getting the shaft out of the carrier bearing or the rear engine mount, I'll tell you that...
