3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Alright I finally broke. I wasn't going to dump any money into my Camry and sell it for a Tacoma. But with fuel prices the way they are, I decided to stick with my 4 cylinder Camry.
So, i've already gone and ripped out the stock air intake and slapped on a Specter cone. Man, does it sound about a million times better now. I pulled up behind a friend in his '96 Hyundai and revved it...scared the hell out of him.
So now I'm moving onto wheels and tires. I absolutely LOVE what EEngineer has done with his Camry. Hopefully that'll be the direction that this project goes. I've already found the rims I like.
Oh yessss. I hope thats not too ricey looking. I like the idea of gold with the green paint job. I just saw similar rims on a NISMO 350Z the other day and well, you get the idea. Right now I have stock suspension, so i'm wondering what tire size will look good. Tirerack.com reccomends a 215-45-17 size for a 17x7 wheel. But I have no idea how low profile that will look on my car with stock suspension. So, a little help please?
Could you post pictures of your car? I'm not really car-savvy enough to know about the dimensions...I'm really new to this. But I'm curious about this "green pain job" and personally...I think the gold would look kind of cool with the green. But it depends on bit on what shade of green too, I guess.

JDM means a certain thing... Japanese Domestic Market...
On ToyotaNation JDMing means getting parts from a JDM Toyota Scepter to make our USDM camry body look like a JDM body... (Rear center panel, tail lights, one piece headlights...) Search Scepter and you will find out more about this...
What you want to do is called improving looks (with regard to the wheels) and ricing out (intake)
The wheel/tire size combination that Tirerack reccommends is stated because those two sizes together would equal the total outer diameter of the stock wheel and tire... therefore not throwing off the speedometer.
You SHOULD do lowering springs before or at the same time as aftermarket wheels and tires. There is not too much worse than nice rims with a huge camry gap between them and the fender.
Terry, nobody will say those wheels are rice... they are decent.

just the stock "dark emerald paint." I had a picture of it in my signature...guess it's not behaving. i'm gonna clay bar and wax it, which of course does wonders. but then again, I may repaint the car. I saw the same color eneki wheels yesterday on a black Mazda. It looked pretty slick.

uhm. whoops. okay, well i guess I am ricing out my car. so i suppose if i went outside and measured another 3 inches around my stock steel wheels, thats going to let me know what the new tire size will look like after i get the eneki rims? and i'll look into the lowering....i hate that gap too.

just because someone tells you that something is rice, doesnt necessarily make it so - everyone has a different opinion
general rule of thumb - if it ruins the body lines, serves no purpose, or just looks ugly then it would probably be considered "rice"
and if you use this tire calculator, it will tell you the appropriate tire size to use with new wheels (your stock tires are 195/70-14): http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

wow thanks, that calculator is amazing. i know those wheels serve a purpose: sexy lookin camry.
also, ad far as body looks, I think i'll go for something eventually. for now, a wing. IMO, this looks better than the OEM wing, but it's not so big that it's annoying.

you can find anything in a search... http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...tor#post324777
that tire size calculator was posted by me in 2004...
that's the beauty of these forums... anything you could want to talk about was probably discussed before...
and i actually like that wing, BUT ONLY WITH A BODY KIT FIRST!!!!! and lowering springs #1, rims #2, body kit #3
You could just take some white chalk and mark a line 1.5 inches outside the edge of your current rims, to get an idea of what it will look like with rims 3 inches wider in diameter.
Note that the overall diameter of the actual tire is not likely to change much. If it did go that route, then your speedometer will not read the correct speed.
So technically you will still have the same gap you have now, unless you lower the springs.

They don't have the Evo5 at TireRack, but they have it at Discount Tire Direct.
Unfortunately the only green they have is this awful Kelly green as opposed to the dark emerald green of the Camry. Hideous, I know, but if you use your imagination, well....
Lynchburg...welcome to TN....I travel 460, though Lynchburg quite often, heading home to Bristol, and in Cambell County, u guys have a State Trooper thats a butt, when it comes to TINT...busted me for 20%, Memoral Day weekend...just to let ya know.
The rims are going to look great with the green..but I don't know about that wing. 215/45 on 17's are going to give some serious "gaposis", people here may give ya shit about it being "lifted", or make comments about 4 wheelers..(they know who they are!!) So I'd plan on a drop ASAP, with H&R's or Eibachs.
I run 215/50's on both of the Coupes with 17x7's and 17x7.5 on the 96. I find the ride is better and the gap at the fenders is less with the taller sidewall. Searching, is a great way of finding almost all the answers to ur questions about making ur gen 3.5 look unique, handle better, and be more enjoyable to drive.
Here's a link to a thread of Gen 3 and 4 members rides and the mods they've made. Be sure to post pic of urs there too!
teh gold on green will look pretty good. i think silver or gunmetal looks better but thats me. as for that wing. it will only look good if ya have a full body kit on as well. otehrwise you enlarge the look of the top half and rear of the car and the spoiler ends up looking even bigger as a result of the lack of contrast to balance it.
BTW..you have a PM.
Joe...its your job to bring him with you to teh next meet. in fact you should throw one down there.
Rob, I''ve been thinking about having a meet here, the next time Adam comes down. We'll see!
Bird u know I have the Gunmetal ADR's (17x7) that the OP, could take off my hands, and save shipping. He's not far from Richmond....thats a good Idea!...Gunmetal would look good with that Green, now that I think about it.
