3rd Generation brake or transmission problem?

So i was checking out a 95 1mz-fe camry today and everything look fine. Besides the EGR had insufficient flow.

Anyways the front brakes made a kinda weird noise. They worked perfectly and the car stops. But right before the car makes a full stop it makes a weird noise. It sounds like if u took a free weight or something heavy and flipped it over. It either makes this sound only once or makes it a couple of times in a row, then stops.

Does anyone know if this is just a simple brake problem or a serious transmission problem?

is it a kind of metal ringing sound? I would say that it's most likely the brakes

Its not ringing nor metal sounding, more like a flop or thump. Or like if u took a pipe rubbed it against something to create drag then suddenly the pipe got free. Or something is grabbing something then letting go.

Usually it makes that noise 3 times then it goes away. Then if i release the brake and re apply it, it makes that noise only once. Also it only happens right before the car comes to a complete stop.

^ I agree...sounds like something is loose in the suspension or something...

that is very hard to diagnose without actually hearing it...

to make sure that it's not the transmission though, take it for a drive again and under the same types of stopping conditions, put the car into neutral first and then do the stop. If it still makes the noise, then it's not the tranny
