3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Directly after one of my teenage kids had a little temper tantrum and slammed her fist down on the dashboard of my 98 Camry the airbag light came on and remains on. Maybe its a coincidence, but is there anything I can do to reset the light or should I take the car to a dealership for a diagnosis. I was hoping the light would go off, but no such luck. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Do a search, you'll find instructions on how to retrieve the code manually. Report back with what you've got, see if someone can't point you in the right direction.
Yeah..its pretty simple. There is a port down by the drivers kick panel that is sort of round. That is where I did mine when I replaced my airbag. I have to do it again now since I had the whole dash out and had to remove the airbag/steering wheel.

I reset it on my car, but i kept failing because i didn't understand the instructions properly.
So heres my version.
1. Hook up wires to Tc and Ab from the diag. ports either in the engine compartment or under the steering wheel column. (theres a sticker displaying the location of Tc and AB on the connector)
2. Connect a jumper cable directly to the battery and bring the other end into the car.
3. get in the car and close the door (for some reason it doesn't like open doors? maybe its me)
4. now connect the Tc wire to the jumper cable which is your ground
5. put your key in and turn it to ON position, wait about 6 seconds or until the chime stops
6. now remove the Tc wire from ground and ground AB
7. remove AB and ground Tc
8. remove Tc and ground AB
9. ground Tc and leave it there for about 20 seconds until the airbag light starts to flash rapidly
steps 6-9 must be done quickly and at an even pace
Thats it your're done. the flashing will stop when you disconnect your wires. Test that the code is cleared but taking the key out and starting the car. The airbag light should come on and go out after a while (normal operation)
I know this is a simple procedure, but i had trouble with it so i hope this helps. PM for questions
