Hurting the tranny or no?

So I've been shifting it to N every time I have to do a hard brake because it seems to brake easier and less vibration and shift back to D when I need driving again. Is this healthy for the auto tranny? Only shifting to D when rpm about 1000 or so, I don't intend to rev and then shift though.

shifting is what wares the tranny out. goin from D to N to D will ware on the tranny a little but if your only doin it under heavy braking then its really not gonna make any differance.

Not a good practice to engine brake with your Trans. It will cause it to wear out. The transmission is not really made to back drive the engine.

Cars or trucks had used that option to offset over heating brakes when descending steep slopes.

I cut off my O/D when going down long hills here in the mountains to keep from overheating the brakes. This procedure is outlined in my OM.

So you're saying you get less braking pulsation when your on neutral?

That might be a good indicative as to what the problem actually is.

Pulsation in pedal is worn suspension bushings, or warped rotors.

Long stretches of braking overheats the brake rotors.

Using O/D off puts transmission into 3rd, and not down to 2nd gear.

get better pads that like heat!!! like my Hawk HPS, they love heat the hotter you get them the better they work!!!!!!! but when they are cold its not too fun!!!!
