Find a couple of bolts that fit into the two holes on the pulley face. Bolt a section of wood to the pulley face, drill hole in wood for the socket. Make section length long enough that it binds up with the chassis or ground when the pulley rotates.
This issues has come up many times, a TN search should result in more ideas.
I struggled for awhile, then found a very easy way to do this. Remove the flywheel access plate under the car (on the face of the transmission facing the oil pan- there is one mounting bracket you'll have to remove first- it's like 5 bolts total.). Get a long-tipped (flat-head) screwdriver. Slide the screwdriver between the flywheel teeth so the screwdriver is wedged against the tranny housing. Remember, the flywheel is going to want to spin counter-clockwise when removing the bolt (and vice-versa when reinstalling), so when removing, you'll be wedging it against the wall on the front side of the car. From my experience, it was a lot easier to loose the bolt pulling my breaker bar front out in front of the car. I just put the socket on the bolt with the bar hangin down, wrapped something around the bottom of the bar and pulled from out in front- got more leverage that way- popped loose in one try (of course I struggled for 3hrs inside the wheel well trying to loosen it). Good Luck!
i tried whole putting it against the suspension and using the starter, and it wont work for some reason. i have already broken 2 adapters for the wrench. it just snaps right off, and the socket stays on.
whoa, you broke an adapter? that bolt is on there good. im assuming you are using a 3/8" drive with a 1/2" socket? i would invest in a 1/2" breaker bar. im not too surprised you are breaking adapters.
I just removed that bolt on my 93 V6 last week by using starter to crank it out. Man, I'm tried using 1/2 drive break bar. No luck. That bolt must be at least 150-200 lbs feet. Top little sh..
also, how do i get to the flywheel? and can I without removing the engine?
Flywheel access plate under the car where the engine mates up with the transmission, right next to the oil pan. I find this easier than having to yank the starter....
