Trans Problem
Drove from Grand Junction to Denver and back yesterdayin my 96 Camry with 166k mi, 70-80 mph all the way. No problems with going over any of the passes.
Was about a mile from home and had to pass a slow poke up a hill. Gassed on it very very hard. Stopped at mail box and when I put it onto gear the tranny would not engage unless I reved up the motor. Drove it the one block home and let it sit. It still would not move in any gear unless I reved up the motor.
The check engine light came on too.
This morning I checked the tranny and it would go forward and reverse with no problem but the check engine light is still on. It was cool out and was at 11pm when the problem started with the Camry.
I had this same problem on a 88 Land Cruiser with an auto tranny but it was very hot out. I just let it cool and never had a problem again.
Could it be that I overheaded the oil and when I stopped it got hotter as there was not enough flow to cool it like it did on the Land Cruiser or do I have more problems.
