3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I hate the gen 3s dash so i wanna swap it out for a gen 4 one. I think with a little modification it should fit but the connections are a tiny bit different. The gen 4 only has 3 connectors going into the dashboard the gen 3 has 4. Does anyone know if this extra connector is neccessary? (the blue ones fit, the red one doesnt ftw)

Those are the connectors for the instrument cluster. Dont know exactly what it does though. You could probably trace the connections in the cluster to see where they go.
I just had my dash out a week or so ago. You can see all kinds of pics in my sig.

That's a lot of work for a cluster that's not going to fit like stock.
There's a lot you can do with your stock cluster that you may want to consider.
You can change out the green bulbs for white LEDS, red bulbs, etc..
You can change the gauge faces,
You can apply a gauge bezel kit.
You can install Intelliglow needle kits.

I am not quite sure, but I have a GEN3 and I only have 3 connectors. A white, blue, and grey connector. My car is a 5SPD manual so I do not have the middle PRND, maybe that is the extra connector.
