Has anyone on here installed a 5000K kit on a non-projector housing? Preferably, HIDs on a gen 4.5 housing? Do you have pictures of the output? n please no "o u shouldnt put HIDs if u havent retrofitted the headlights" my brother's Lexus LS 400 only has the clear headlamps wit no projectors, yet still has HIDs, n thas a Lexus
I'm currently refitting tha gen 4.5 headlamps onto my 98 if u wonderin

you are comparing an ls400 headlamp which has reflectors that are made for hids to some aftermarket headlights which aren't. that's a bad comparison. Maybe if your lucky there won't be much glare. I'm not going to tell you to retrofit it (even tho thats what I would do) but good luck. I think some members have done it but I don't remember what the cutoffs look like. good luck tho
true that bout tha LS 400, but they arent aftermarket, they actually OEM headlights but for a gen 4.5, i have a gen 4. Jus was wonderin if somebody else whose done it can post up pics

Nobody takes pictures of hids in non projector housing because its too embarrassing. Its a mess, no beam pattern at all. I bought HIDS and would go back to halogen after selling these, trying to sell it locally but we'll see. Blinding everybody sucks.
unless you're retrofitting projectors, stay away from HIDs. you'll embarrass yourself and blind everyone while you're at it. either go 100%, or don't go at all.

I dont wanna do it in my gen 4 headlights, imma add em to my gen 4.5 headlight conversion once i do it, yea i completely agree on no not usin HID on gen 4 headlamps wit tha diffractions, that would screw up all tha light pattern n blind everyone, I wanna see if anybody has added HIDs on GEN 4.5 HEADLAMPS, have any of u seen em in those? Dont care that u've seen em in gen 4 n older headlamps, all i want is an answer for gen 4.5 headlamps

you can get away with it in reflector housings, but every housing is different ... in lens optics housing, it almost never turns out well
you'll never have a good cutoff like with projectors, because thats not what those housings are designed for at all - and nowadays you can get projectors for fairly cheap ... even halogen projectors would be better than no projectors at all (ive seen HID bulbs in the ES300 projectors)

i dont expect to have a sharp cut off line cuz like u said, most reflectors arent designed to do that, all i care bout is output n minimum glare, my brother's LS 400 has reflectors designed to for HIDs but still, dont have a sharp cut off line, which is what im hoping to get , but i knoe theres gotta be someone on here who has seen or has the HID on tha gen 4.5 headlamps

Just move your car up close to a wall and look at its beam patterns with halogens. Now imagine that with SIGNIFICANTLY more light. Basically if the beam shoots up significantly bright patterns upwards, you might not want to get HID's. You can use the pythagarean theorem and see how how the beams are going and you'll reaize that you ARE blinding them. You can visualize this in your head. This is exactly why aftermarket HID's are illegal and why Europe requires all HID equipped vehicles to have headlight washers. Without a cutoff line, you will create glare. Dirt can do the same. As such, HID's cause accidents because you blind other drivers.
And sorry I don't have a gen4.5 camry, I can't get pics for you. I would suggest you not get HID's unless you get retrofitted/aftermarket projectors with a proper cutoff line. Especially for both you and other drivers/pedestrians safety. I won't stop you though, I love HID's. I have it on my car. (I have an IS250 AWD if you're wondering though. it has proper projectors as well as an auto-leveling and auto-turning lights that has good cut off line. and don't ask why i'm in this forum, long story ;p)
so i take it nobody has done HID's with a non projector housing?
I did it. I put 8000K HID's on both my low-beams and my high beams. I had to find places to put the ballasts, but they work fine, even though I don't have projector covers. They work fine, are bright, and awesome as hell.
Regarding blinding others, just move the left lamp down a bit (if you think you need to...I didn't on mine.)...They're still low enough on the stock version, so others who are saying it'll blind others, have clearly not done it. The high-beams...yes they are blinding, but they're not meant for normal driving (of course).

Got any pics of how they look at night with the cutoff line? do you have gen 4 or 4.5 headlamps?

Hey, I have a gen 4.5, and I don't have the cutoff line. All I have is a video where I'm turning the low-beams on, then the high-beams...that's for about the first 20 seconds, then I'm just revving up the engine, playing with the light switches (to all the green lights, etc.)
I don't know if the video will work or not, but it's a video that's on facebook. Here's the link below.
At bout 0:18-0:20 when u show the headlights, are your high beams on as well? would you be able to take some pics for me? of the cut off line on a wall with jus low beams when it dark outside and a frontal shot? Wat kit are you using? 6000K?
