go pick up a haynes manual and it'll tell you

basically, first the throttlebody to get the intake plenum (+egr) off, and then some nuts and bolts for the intake manifold. just make sure that you drain the block coolant first...and replace the coolant bypass hose in there while you're at it

there are two block drain plugs that you will need to drain before you can take off your intake manifold.

the one in the rear is only accessible from under the car, and the front one is basically under the exhaust manifold, kind of to the right of the oil filter

You shouild consider relocating the knock sensor if this is a 1mzfe, leave the engine intact.

Here is a link you have to read - by someone more knowledgeable than I. I can attest that I have done this and it works great. Buy the harness from Toyota and make your own wire extension with SHIELDED wire. Drill the hole to 19/64 Tap to 10mm x 1.25 ( gotta check the pitch) cut the wire feeding to the sensors (but do so on the signal feed side of the plug) use that plug to make your new extension, splice both paths into the one sensor.

Don't go that way.....go for te relocation or put the wires of both the wires to getter!!!!!!!! That is the most easy job and also safe way.

1 year ago i put both te wires on 1 sensor

A couple of months ago the second knocksensor was killed then i did the relocation. The sensor is still detecting the knocks, so it is safe todo.

What you need for the relocation is:
-2 knock sensors
-1 Knock sensor harness
-2 bolts that fit on the knocksensor
-2 metal corner brackets (must be metal because the knocksenor must be grounded)
-1 hour to install

1. disconnect the battery.

2. disconnect, on the right side, the knocksenor harness...(compare the connector with your new harness to find it)

3. connect the new wire harness

4. mount the 2 senors on the brackets

5. loosen 1 bolt on the head and mount the bracket with that bolt on the head

6. Repeat 4. for the second sensor.

7. Connect the wire harness with the sensors.

8 connect the battery
9. And drive!

If the sensor gives a error check if the sensors are grounded.
