3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hoping to get a response here....
What can I put on my 5SFE 5-speed Camry that will fit with no to limited modification? What can I put with some modification? A lot???
Reason is I am suspicious of a partially-plugged manifold cat (little power higher up and high teens to low 20's fuel economy) and for $450 for that cat, I figure a header isn't such a bad thought.
Bosal Headers (like TN Member Durrby) has will fit on the Camry ... Celica headers will fit if you cut the lower half and modify it to get past bumper supports, i believe
Bosal is a great company, the header is a bit pricey but if i were to get one i wouldnt settle for anything else ... it will make your exhaust a bit raspy if you dont have a decent resonator & muffler though

Well, at $430 at Andy's Auto Sport, we're looking at a little less than a new catalytic converter, which, btw, a 100 watt bulb put in the fat end yields no visible light at the pipe end. Did I mention its a pain to get the back stud-nut off?
Went back a while later.... My high beams won't allow any light through either. Toast?
why not get a universal magnaflow "high flow" cat. that's the size of the exhaust piping and have a muffler shop weld it in for $50 or less?
hottexhaust.com has some for less than $100 and with 5 minutes of online searching can get you another $5 off.
Regardless of anyone with anyone, the only Camry header I've found is the Bosal and when the cashflow comes in it's what I'm doing.
Hollowed out the mani-cat and non-foulered the Oxy sens. Threw the code anyway. I'm going to assume its because of how close that sensor is to the other one, and the exh. valves as well. It definitly has better mid-range power. Top end is improved, but nothing spectacular. Wasn't really expecting that out of an engine with a "F" head.
I figure when the header comes I'll have to get a new sub-cat as well, considering the factory is welded and all the pictures point to the new intermediate pipe that comes with the header being flanged. Good opportunity to upgrade sizes anyway probably.
If I have a header and a sub-cat, what exhaust should I go for for a nice basso tone with minimal rice? I mean, I can have a muffler shop weld stuff up for me, I'm more concerned about max pipe size, whats a good muffler and/or resonator... That kinda thing.
