1996 4 cylinder 2.2L 5SFE Engine

Hi,

It is time to upgrade my rear shocks, but I am not sure which one I need...Please help!!!
Can someone tell me or confirm 1996 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder 2.2L 5SFE Engine does not has ABS brakes?

I try to figure out if I do have ABS or not, so I can buy the rear shocks..ONline list with ABS and w/o ABS....I pretty sure my model does not has ABS brakes...I just want to confirm before I spent $$$..

W/o ABS shock is little cheaper than W ABS shocks...

refer link below...

Turn on the ign key and check the dash indicator icons. Determine if there is an “ABS” icon. Or pull a tire, if ABS there will be a sensor (with a electrical wire attached) on each wheel.

The ABS strut has an extra mounting bracket.

2 ways to check. First when i turn on the car, a light in the instrament cluster will say ABS. A more accurate way to checking is to pop the hood. Like at the power steering fluid, then further forword is the coolant fluid, next u will either have an empty gap or a block with tubes coming of it. If their is nothing their, just an empty spot, u dont have abs and vice-versa.

One thing you can do is look in your engine compartment for the ABS Acrtuator. It is located in the front passenger side in front of and slightly below the radiator overflow reservoir. It has six metal brake tubes attached to it. Another quick check is to turn the key "on" without cranking the engine. This will activate all of your dashboard problem lights. If you see one for ABS then you probably have an ABS system.

OK, I took too long typing. ^^++11

Well, first off, the item you have selected in that link corresponds to what it says is the 'lateral arm' which I believe is also called the suspension arm (correct me if I'm wrong).

Second, what component exactly is it you wish to replace? Just the shock absorber, the strut insert, the whole assembly?

Third; if you wish to distinguish between whether or not you have ABS, an easy way is to look into the engine bay...

If you have the silver box between the coolant and windshield washer fluid reservoirs on the bottom left-hand side of the photo with the 4 wires coming out of it, you have ABS. If the box is absent, you don't have it

EDIT: Just like the guys above said, except with a picture

Damn, I don't have it in my Cam. That's ok, I'll put the loudest truck horn in that empty space.
