3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This car is f*ckin SICK! Its a supercharged 3.5 fwd anybody ever looked into swapping it into a gen 3.5?? I've been outta the game for a while so this may have been brought up. Nasty looking car though!
Hey thanks bigbird . I had a TRD blower at 1 point in time but its an expensive hobby for someone in college. Just thought i'd check and see if anyone tried it.
but the cobalt has only 210hp. i think his guff is with it being a 300+ hp supercharged FWD car, in which case id have to agree to an extent...could be wrong. if not you can go to hell cuz im supercharged and FWD... which unless you have a very good differential and traction control will be pretty usless but for highway pulls. but at least some aspect of toyota hasnt gotten totally soft and still has some humor.
A supercharger (or 'blower' ) is a gas compressor that forces more air into the combustion chamber(s) of an internal combustion engine than is achievable with ambient atmospheric pressure (as seen in a naturally-aspirated engine, see forced induction). The higher mass flow rate together with an increased heat input provided by additional fuel combining with the greater mass of atmospheric oxygen available, increases the specific cycle work and hence power output of the engine.
... why should it be on AWD or RWD any more than FWD? do you understand the advantages between drivetrain types? a RWD will only have an advantage in a drag race (which is not the only type of racing) ... once the cars are rolling, theyre rolling, and the RWD no longer has the advantage
and even for drag, any car can grip ... it doesnt matter whether its FWD, RWD, or AWD ... and with any setup where significant power is added, you are going to have to support that power ... in the case of FWD over 300hp (usually), that means bigger tires up front

it goes like this plan and simple...(best to worst) AWD, RWD, FWD...depending on the application. fwd has teh most hurttles to get over to complete with the other 2 forms. but serious performance vehicles are never FWD unless built up..and even then could be beaten in most cases by cars built to teh same specs and money and with awd or rwd. its not about boosting a fwd car...its about HP on a fwd car. too much and its usless. but there are plenty of near 300hp fwd cars and they do juuuust fine. do some homework before you speak up and be clear, my car is supercharged but i still only produce 200whp which is MORE then controlable.
Toyota is making bad choices, they know that people in America like horse power and good looks. They should ship some here, I would be the first person in line!
Toyota = EPIC FAILURE
My Gen 4 Camry is the last car that I will own that is a Toyota, unless if they make a good rear wheel or all wheel drive sedan/coupe. Hoping they are going to produce the Subaru/Toyota Rear wheel drive instead of being a "concept" or I just loose all hope with Toyota.
look at the sales for the celica and like cars aka rsx. they wont make money with those. people in america like things that look sporty, but are cheap, and get good mileage like a scion tc, etc
