3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am having the dealer replace the egr valve and related components tomorrow. This is to fix the car idle dropping below 250 at idle after highway driving. He also wanted to clean the fuel injectors at the same time. To use his words "you have to get the carbon out". At this time, I decided to pass. Did I make a mistake? I was planning on trying to use the seafoam (through the brake booster) instead. Is this a bad idea? If I seaffoam my engine will it foal the plugs?
The car is a 1995 camry with 130K. The dealer also found 4000 worth of other repairs that he highly recommends. Some legit. Others I think he just want to boost his profits.
Basically 1/3 goes into your gas tank, 1/3 goes into your vacume lines [using the brake booster line] and 1/3 goes into the crankcase. Just follow the directions. There's a few good vids on uTube now how to do it.Makes a huge difference. My engine is running nice and smoothly now. Don't forget to change out your PVC if it's not been done recently. Changing mine got rid of my oil leak issue as it was totally clogged up.

Also after you run it through your oil you'll want to change the oil asap while still hot, since the the carbon and othe junk will now be floating in the oil. Thats what I do anyways. I told this to someone last week..." I have taken off the intake manifold and plenum maybe 7 times this year while building my setup and its been really clean thanks to Seafoam."

Seafoam isn't going to blast any seals/gaskets by itself...people say it does, but in reality, some old seals/gaskets are simply held together by gunk, and when Seafoam gets rid of it, the things start to leak. Meh. Hasn't hapenned to me, and I've Seafoamed through the brake booster and the crank case. The latter definitely seemed to improve my vibration at idle.
To clean the injectors, though, you'll want to run 1/3 of the can through the gas tank. That's next on my list of things to do..

I used a simplier stuff, a bottle of "fuel system cleaner" into the fuel tank, which is going to do the same thing . I do notice the improvement without bothering the neighboor calling 911 (they are busy enough with wildfire down here, lol).

I think seafoam works better but usaully I run fuel injector cleaner it also. Old timers at the muffler shop use a mix of tulene, alchol, and other crap( its how the old schoolers used to race with) and it makes 109 octane with 1/2 pint of the stuff. cleans the entire fuel system.

Long U bent rubber hose that goes from intake plenum on passenger side( other end of where the throttle body ) to the brake fluid reservoir area, follow that and it is attached to a plsatic check valve then connected to a black can on firewall.

For inline or V6?

Trying to get my baby restored...
So Far: Dual XHD-6425
i believe theyre in the same place for both cars ... relatively speaking ... i think i have a picture (ill edit in a few seconds)
edit:
not the best picture, but its the closest i could find ... its the big drum thing against the firewall (above the brake fluid reservoir)
i used the line that goes straight down (to the right of the reservoir) and is held on by that 1 metal clip [i had to open it by hand, i highly recommend that you use pliers if you value the skin on your fingertips]

So you just unclip it, pull it off and pour the seafoam in the tube? Then clip it back on and run it?
1. Pour 1/3 a bottle of seafoam into a cup
2. Start car, you may want to heat it up to normal operating temp.
3. Pop the hood while it's running
4. Unclip the hose from the brake booster (engine might react, normal)
5. Dip the hose in cup of seafoam to let it suck it up. When engine wants to stall (normal) pull it out and repeat until cup is empty. You get better product distribution if you do it that way. It sprays even in all cylinders while if you pour it in it might not get in every cylinder as well.
6. Shut engine off
7. Wait 20 minutes
8. Start car, it might not start easy (normal)
9. Once car is started, rev it real good. It will smoke quite a lot.
10. Once smoke clears out, go drive and be sure to rev the engine good.
11. Pour the rest of the Seafoam in gas tank.
12. Drink beer.
I never poured seafoam in my crankcase, I don't know if it smokes or anything, but when I want to clean my engine I do the above.
